This makes us all look bad!!!

Just saw this on a local forum. Here is a vid clip.

wounded deer

Few things to consider here. First of all this is definately not an arrow but a cross bow bolt. crossbowhunting is illegal in CT except for documented handicapped people. Secondly, archery season ended in this are 2 months ago, on Dec. 31st. I'm thinking chances are this deer was shot illegally, by a poacher, and not a hunter. More fuel for the fire for the anti's, and something to push non hunters that aren't against hunting away from us.

We had been doing pretty good with this kind of stuff for a while to i think.

Well never now it migth not blow up. One question if you had any since why wouldnt you hunt for this deer rather than let it go like this person i bet did. confused.gifcrazy.gif

When something like this makes the 6 o'clock news in CT, you can bet someone is gonna make a big deal about it. The timing is terrible because we are pushing for Sunday hunting in CT, and it is coming up for public meetings in the next week.

Re: This makes us all look bad!!!

John, two years ago in my suburban neighborhood, our neighbor who also hunts, knocked on my door and asked me if my dad had shot at a buck or anything lately. I told him no and he told me that a 9pt had died in his parents backyard ( a few houses away ) that was shot in in the eye. It hit just under the left eye. Either someone was a really bad shot or they were screwing around. Here are two pics of the magnificent buck that my dad could have taken legally:

We didn't get a pic of the hole where the buck was shot but it really ticked us all off.

We had a similar case here a few years ago, but the arrow didn't have a broadhead on it. It was a target point, which made it even more repulsive, especially for us hunters. mad.gifmad.gif

I was thinking that looking atthe lack of obvious damage on the does face, that I would bet that there is a field point on that bolt. It was just my first impression.

Re: This makes us all look bad!!!

For starters, it's a shame and I hope the doe survives.......looks like she's doing fine.

Let's not jump and start yelling poacher when you don't know that for sure. The doe could have been shoot 3 months ago and this was just the first time anyone saw her.

Be thankful that the local news did such a good unbiased job of covering the story. Usually when they do that, the anti's don't have much to get their hands on, and I think too many people are so afraid of Anti's that they see them around every corner, when in reality they are a minority in New England.

Re: This makes us all look bad!!!

I agree with VTbowhunter on this. This Doe could have been shot during legal hunting times. It is hard to tell if it's a bolt or not. Either way though, it's bad news for us and fuel for the opposition. It could also be an honest cass of buck/doe fever and someone just made a bad shot.
