I really like the sound of it, what are the ballistics and what is the recoil on this thing? AJ, im sure u know about this cartridge. Thanks Guys. Ballistically it falls just short of the .300 Win. Mag. But it's fairly similar. To the best of my knowledge, there have not been any factory production guns chambered in .308 Norma since the 70's. Yep, the 308 Norma Mag is similar to the .300 Win Mag, but lacks a few FPS as it has a longer neck than the .300 Win Mag. Realistically, there is no difference out to 350 yards or so. It was a popular gun for 1000 yard shooting as it has the longer neck. This can reduce the possibility for bullet run out. It never really gained much popularity. But the the 308 Norma is a 338 necked down to a 308 round. Which set the presidents as a wild cat cartridge. Ballistics are slightly less than the 300 win mag. On average only 60 ft/sec. Actually........no.............that would be the wildcat 30-338 Win. which used to be the mainstay of law enforcement sniper rifles. The .308 Norma Magnum (which was introduced in 1960) exactly is a necked down .358 Norma Magnum (introuduced in 1959). Basically it is a necked up 7mm Rem Mag or a necked down 338 Win Mag. drjones Posted November 2, 2009 Report Share Posted November 2, 2009 I have a 308 Norma Mag in a parker and hale which i reload for. Since 308 Norma brass is hard to find and very expensive i use 338 Win Mag brass which is identical to 308 Norma brass once its necked down. A great and accurate gun.
