My Smith 29 project gun...

Got my model 29 back today. She turned out fantastic.

This gun started out twenty years ago as a 8-3/8" Model 29 .44mag. After many thousands of rounds the barrel was all but shot out with the forcing cone badly eroded. I picked up a stainless 6.5" factory ported barrel off eBay, a beautiful set of Kim Ahrends grips, a Millet rear sight and a SDM fiber optic front sight. I had the barrel set back one turn, the face of the cylinder cleaned up and the sharp edges rounded off. The action was also cleaned up and new springs added. I had the top strap drilled and tapped for the three hole scope mount system used on modern S&W wheel guns. The whole gun was then bead blasted and finally hard chromed. The Millet / SDM sights are the best thing going for iron sights.

My smith sent the body of the Millet in for the hard chrome finish also. I think it's a nice touch.

The 'ole 29 has been reborn. I can't wait to get her out and get some rounds down range.
