Re: Realtree Turkey Team #3

I've not done any scouting this weekend. We got about 2 foot of snow at my house. In the mtns probably closer to 3 to 4 feet. 1st good storm we have had this winter. I've hunted my buddy's ranch for the past 10 or 12 years. I know where they roost & which drainages they like to use. CB

Ranchand99----I do that also, to be honest I would rather have her shoot than myself. I called one in last year for her-------he flew across a small river & landed about 5 yards in front of her !! CB

Re: Realtree Turkey Team #3

Awesome! We're going for her 2nd bird.

My wife's first bird was a 2 year old.He did everything you would want him to...Twice!He ran 140yds down the trail(seriously right in to the decoy set up.Double gobbling, and gobbling at every peep I made.I could have shot him 30 times, but she was scared. She was begging me to stop him.Every time I clucked,he would look right at us,and gobble.Shaking his whole body.25yds away! Finally he realized he was the only one moving after I stopped calling. He picked his head up,and she hammered him.Just too perfect ya' know.It was a huge load off my chest. grin.gif He had 1" spurs,9 1/2" beard, and weighed 18lbs,which is pretty heavy for a 2 year old around here.

We came close a few times last year, but it is so hard to find a babysitter. So,she didn't get to go regular. We did have a hen and a poult walk by on the opposite side of the road,in the first week of May,as she hid behind a pine, and I laid flat on my stomach.10ft away. She said that made her whole season.

She's been really pumped up this year..It's gonna be cold here in the morning, but I know a sunny place they love to hang out,and eat.I may have to use my woodsmanship skills to help her bag a bird tomorrow.

Good luck to all of you,and I'll check back in later.Oh,yeah we're going to be on public land so prey for us. shocked.gifgrin.gif

Re: Realtree Turkey Team #3

Well, my season opens on saturday, and I will be out there with my buddy. He has killed 2 birds, and has a little more experience than me. However, I know the land we will be on, and found some scratchings awhile back. We will give it a shot and see what happens.

Well I see you can't upgrade..well that was the last thing on my mind after hunting 8 days straight, getting up early, hunting all day, hunting public land, several close calls, and working this bird for 1 hour and 50 minutes...I earned him.Good luck to all of you.I hope my score helps.

I have to get this form printed on a friends computer, then I will add my pics.Good luck to you all!

Re: Realtree Turkey Team #3

congrats! I didnt get one on our opening day. We had one bird work a little, but being new at this we moved from where we first heard him down the hill, and called...he came right where we were the first time, and we tried to ease up to a spot where we could actually see to shoot, but bumped him. Ohh well we learned something. I will be at it again this next saturday. Same place we had about 4 birds goobleing there so hopefully we will at least get one in sight this time. Good luck to everyone!

Re: Realtree Turkey Team #3

Got in last nite from Texas. I got my best bird to date. He was 23 1/2 lbs, 1 1/8" spurs & 9 1/2" beard. Phoos are getting developed. I'll post the story & photos in the turkey thread. CB
