Re: Realtree Turkey Team #8

guys--haven't been much help this year---don't really know what is up???? Went out yesterday morning and called up a Jake--only had about 3 inches of a beard but was still pretty good size bird. Decided to let him walk. Heard a few more gobbles but they just wouldn't work for me. Went out last weekend for an afternoon hunt with my daughter. With about 30 minutes of light left we finally started working a group but I ended up calling in the neighbors dog and there went the birds. Going to try again this wednesday.

best of luck to everyone

Sounds like you have a healthy, productive flock ther e Ryan. My season starts next week and my hunting partner is seeing birds around his place, that is our first spot. Seeing some nice Toms and he's almost got them patterned pretty good on their daily routine! Fingers crossed hoping to score for the team.

Good luck to everyone! smile.gif

Re: Realtree Turkey Team #8

Well opening day was a bit of a disappointment, it rained on us pretty much all day, we never even heard a gobble in an entire day of hunting. We hunted fields and clearings and called pretty sparingly, just one of those days. We also never heard one shot all day.

Saw one hen in an adjacent property, that was all.

Common sun!!

Re: Realtree Turkey Team #8

Just got back. Nothing to report. It was the weirdest day. Had 4 gobblers in different areas of where I hunt going off like crazy while they were on the roost. I was calling for my dad this morning by the way. We set up 150 yds away from one start calling around 6:00 and he's just gobbling his head off, we hear him fly down and he won't gobble. We call and call for an hour and he never showed up. The rest of gobblers shut up after 6:15 too. I heard 1 other gobble all morning we were out. I thought for sure we'd have one come in...

Re: Realtree Turkey Team #8

Seen a Tom and a bunch of hens out in a field about 300 yards from the land we hunt on. He was not going to come our way though, he was content with what he had.

Yesterday seen a hen all by herself. We think she has a nest nearby. Was really warm, glad I had my leafy suit on!! Mosquitoes were bad though, never seen them this bad this early in May! Warmest spring we have had in years!!

Will be going out this week after work. Hoping for better results!

Re: Realtree Turkey Team #8

Still gunning boys! Going to get out as much as I can this week, I haven't heard one gobble all season, talked to some guys at the hunting/fishing store here in Ontario, nobodies been hearing gobbles until just a few days ago, must be the weather...its hard to stay motivated!!!

However, my buddy and I have tracked the turkeys so that we know where they go every morning and night, and we have had about 4 close calls, including him missing at 15 feet! Since every single bird came in silent, we were either caught completely off gaurd, or got up to move and they would be around the corner about 60-80 yards, and take off.

They should be starting to gobble now, I haven't been out for about 4 days.

P.S. Last week we got to our field and their was already a hen that i could see feeding through the bushes, about 50 yards. We waited until she fed over to a point sticking out in the field, and i quickly crawled out and set up a decoy, on ym way back, between the fields edge and the decoy, SHE POPS OUT. I was frozen on my hands and knees looking back, while my buddy held our guns, sitting on one knee at the edge. I slowly layed down on my belly within a period of 5 mins, and she walked by me at 25 feet, just feeding, I LAYED IN THE MUD FOR 45 MINS LOL!!!!
