smallmunster
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Congrats on the new arrival! Don't have any myself but from the ones I've been around you might try to get him on a mouth call first. All that air used for bawling and screaming could be put to good use! bghunter777
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Well all I know you were all getting worried that our anchor was not going to show up but do not worry I am here been to busy in the woods patterning 4.5 year old and older limb hangers have posted a bird every year since the start and do not plan on braking that streak any time soon. The Cody is ready to rock along with the Mossberg only thing that I need now is a cool crisp morning the opening of turkey season and a flydown cackle occompanied with a keekee and a and a soft yelp to bring em in on a rope. magnatecsteve
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 GREAT!! The weather been screwed up there in Ohio and Pennsylvania too? One day it's spring, the next it's winter again!! I been seeing alot of activity here too. I went out to the woods the other morning, was up on my observation hill, and seen three nice toms pop out of the corner of section of oaks about 60 or so yards from where I was. The crows were sounding off all over, I was surprised that they never gobbled once. All three had nice beards around 10" or so, but I think they were satellite or juvenile toms since they were all together and never gobbled. I have been hearing certain toms sounding off for a while. The other morning on the way home from work, had to stop in the road to let a REAL nice tom finish corraling his hens back accross the road. Off in the field there was another nice tom all struttin with four hens!! I still have a few weeks still, just hope the O.T. at work settles down, been putting in 72 to 84 hour weeks....Best of luck to all!! fenderhunt4
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 yeah, it's surprising how many things you acquire year after year in your vest. I was planning on buying some gloves the other day until I counted up that I had 6 pairs of gloves already in my gear box!
magnatecsteve
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 I hear ya! I picked up a Tarantula Vest after season last year, it is SWEET!! Love all of the pockets, all custom fitted to what fits them, (slates, box, strikers, flip down diaphragm holder). I think I'm gonna like it, Trying to streamline it too, thanks to buying a few more top o the line calls that cancel out a few of the others. Finally had a few days off from work(I actually TOOK them). Took the family up through Michigan, through Ontario to see Niagra Falls. Was a fun trip, saw some toms strutting even up there,...from the highway! Can't wait till it opens here. I have been staying out of the woods, ther are right on schedule where they should be. Seen a REAL nice one Wed morn in the clover field strutting. Best of luck to yall!
fenderhunt4
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Our forum is getting a little stale...no comments LOL! I guess everyone must be out turkey hunting. Too bad I have to wait until the last week of April to begin, here in Ohio. Good luck! Let us know how you are doing!
magnatecsteve
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Been busy here, OT at work, scouting the turkey woods, looks promising, taking my 6 year old son fishing (6 BIG bluegill, two 12" and 14" blue channel cats, one small largemouth), shooting my new longbow (Howard Hill), getting my "Honey Do" list done before season, riding and cleaning my motorcycle, looking for the first few mushrooms..... Season starts the 26th for me.Best of luck to all!!
smallmunster
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Tagged a tom that was just under 23 lbs. on 4/15/06. It was more luck than skill just happened on to him after several toms got away from us. I was laying on a pasture hilltop after dropping in my tracks and could only see the red head coming over the hill. A good end to a long day. Good luck Team! magnatecsteve
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Smallmunster...great job!! Very nice bird! I went out this morning to do a quick check on bird locations, they were right where they should be. The bird I'm after is the boss tom, I'm pretty sure. He has at least a ten inch beard and looks like some decent spur length. Just have to wait for the 26th!!
ljmelea
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 went out this weekend with first time father and young son.we turkey hunted the right way,and they really got the idea of what its all about.dad got a really nice merriams jake, son was on wrong side of tree unfortunately.i think they will be joining the federation and jr has a jakes membership on the way, courtesy of yours truely.i was hoping for a long beard in front of me,but it felt really good helping these guys start out on the right foot.northern idaho for longbeards this weekend.go team
magnatecsteve
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Well tomorow is my first day to hunt. Wont get out till about an hour after sunrise due to this thing called work....but Thursday, I feel my odds are very good. I have a bird patterned really well. I even know what treee I plan on stalking to before light...well before light. I shouldn't have to call at all, he flies down to the same area day after day, but of course I'll have my calling arsenal with me just in case....I hope to be posting some pics some time Thursday afternoon!! Good luck guys!
magnatecsteve
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Well, no luck on opening day.... Got out after work, two toms in the usual spot with 6 hens. Tried to set up close and call, wouldn't come in. Tried to circle around and try pulling them the other direction, no luck. They stayed in that same area all morning with the hens that were obviously very content with whatever they were scratching for. Played the waiting game till 11:30 and called it quits since I had to work. Oh yeah, there were two toms, both very nice. This morning I plan on setting up close, right near their fly down area. I am taking a good friend of mine also, if all goes well, should maybe get a double!!
ljmelea
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 well saturday morning looked really good to start out.i knew where four long beards were fighting for dominance(thursday noon work start).got in early set up on the route ,had long beard all the way up draw,80 yds spinning and drumming.all of a sudden, periscope up,snood up,long beard down low around the rocks and gone!what's up?partner move?(no)around the ridge, head'm off.two yelps, just above us,"their call'in right below us".Busted on public land.not only did they not honor our set up,but i lost my spec 1 striker with 15 notches.i'll be there saturday morning looking for that green striker protector, then look for a gobbler.go team
magnatecsteve
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 This year has been the most frustrating yet. Have three toms on the property. I set up here, they fly down there...set up there, they fly down here!! Three toms and LOTS of hens.. Had all three strutting just opposite a large gas line clearing, answered my every call for nearly an hour before a hen led them off. Set up near the roost one morning way before light, was raining cats and dogs, tom flew down at what I thought was my max range...took the shot, turned out he was a little further...Belly crawled 1/4 mile to try to get close to a strutting tom in the CRP, got within bout 60 yards and got busted by a hen.. These birds are fired up, but will NOT come in close, they are hanging up. Tomorrow morning I'm setting up on the opposite side of the one toms usual roost and see if he comes my way, if not, going right to the gas line to set up my decoys...On top of that, I'm selling my house, and having one built on 30 acres I'm buying, just happens to be right across the road from where I hunt now.....Good luck and wish me some!! bghunter777
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Bird down my pictures of the lengths stink my father was to far away from the tape measure hope everyone will trust the honor system. not my biggest ever but respectable 7/8th inch spurs both sides 19lbs even and 10" beard even. I have never had luck posting pics if someone with a scanner would be willing to let me snail mail them that would be appreciated thanks and good luck to you all. now I have to try for my 2nd here in Pa but no guarentees on a bigger bird. I have been using my bow for my 2nd with no blind. had one in to 30 yards 2 days ago could not get a shot. had 2 others at 40 the same day later on no shot on them either. magnatecsteve
Re: Realtree Turkey Team #18 Great!! I hope I get mine soon!! I work 12 hr nights and the other day was my day off. I had to mow my yard so the house will look good while trying to sell. After being up for over 30 hours I got to bed. 3:30 was just WAY too early this morning, I had to hit the snooze, I wouldn't have been able to stay awake in the woods. I'll be out in the morning.
