this year was my first year hunting on my own. so i decided to take a day off school and go with my cousin during the second week. my cousin told me that the rut was about to peak so i was very excited. he picked me up at about 5:30 am. we finally got into my stand that i was going to sit on at 6:30. just as my cousin explained where i should be looking. as soon as he left i got ready and just loaded my rifle and there was a deer standing about 110 yards from me and walking away. i couldn't tell what it was so i let the deer go. I was kind of frustrated thinking we had made to much noise going in that they would have all taken off, and not return. at around 7:00 i decided to get out my rattling antlers and grunt call to see if i could get something happening. i had gotten done rattling and turned around for something to do when i saw a deer move throught some thick brush. so i got out my binoculars by this time the deer was going to come out perfectly to me. I saw the antlers on himat around 80 yards. he stepped behind a small cedar tree, when he came around the tree he spotted me and i knew i did have anytime to waist. he started to quarter to me so i put the cross hairs on the front shoulder and took the shot he took off like he was hit hard and i herd him going through the woods so the wait began for my cousin to come back and get me. it was my first time i had hunted the spot so i didn't feel like going and getting lost. my cousin and the rest of the guys showed up 1 and a half hours later ( long old wait). when we went to start tracking the deer there was no sign of blood but i knew i had hit him, we just started out in the last direction i saw him going in. it turns out i hit himin the top of the lungs and there was no exit wound for the blood to come out of. what a day! my first deer three years in the making. you know how they say third time is a charm well it is so true i had missed to a big 12 point the year before and a doe that same year. Great buck, congrats...one request..please do not point gun at yourself, even though I see the bolt is open and presume the gun is unloaded..it gives me chills..

[/ QUOTE ]

Yup, I had the same thought.....the gun pointed at you scares me a bit: HOWEVER, a great buck: You say "Southern Ont." Where are you talking?? I am really thinking of doing a hunt north of MN: In Southern Ont. Where were you near? Great buck!
