Turkeygirl
How well does a squirrel call work? I'm going to go out after squirrels tomorrow and take Andy's call and see if it will help me get 3 last squirrels? It's the type with the wood and then the rubber thing on top that you push down on. How freaquently should I call? I have high hopes that it will get some squirrels chattering back so I can get close to them. Thanks!
Tominator
Re: Using a squirrel call Never have used one. Old timer I used to know would take two quarters, hold one with the index and thumb of one hand (like you're making the "A-OK" sign, only put the quarter in there), and strike that quarter with the other quarter. It does sound a bit like a squirrel.
RangerClay
Re: Using a squirrel call I used one but I rarely had any luck with it. Good luck finding squirrels in this cold weather we are having. Ranger
Guest buddy ahart
Re: Using a squirrel call Ive tried a few differnt kind but they never worked for me . Your better off shooting at one and listening for some to bark thats what i do .
Exturkinator
Re: Using a squirrel call it sounds as though you describe the kind of call that you shake repetitively to get the squirrel "chuckle". i agree with others above - i haven't had good luck with em.. Jeramie
Re: Using a squirrel call I use them all the time with TONS of success! Seriously. The ones I use have the rubber bulb on the end and they make the bark. If I shoot a squirrel I stay seated and just watch where it falls. Wait about 5-minutes (or longer, depending on how spooked they are) and then call as if youre a squirrel that just saw a dog in the woods. Bark, bark, bark, bark, bark, bark, etc. Do that for a few minutes and you will see them come out to see what the noise is all about. If they dont come out right of DONT keep calling. Call for a minute or so and then quit for about 3-4. It will get their attention. Even after youve quit calling youll see them start to peak around branches and such.
