PAbowhunter86
Why wont they make a shotgun without a vent rib. I hate them, they make the guns so much heavier then what they could be. I have an old Rem. 11/48 that doesnt have a rib, I shot it better than any gun with a Rib and the best part is how light the gun is.
Tominator
Re: Vent Rib..........WHY!!!! ? Can't imagine the rib adds that much weight. Ribs serve 2 purposes as far as I know. 1--they give you a better sight plane, and 2--they disperse heat so as not to skew your target if the barrel were to heat up. Post this in the shotgun forum and I'd bet AJ or Xen could give you more specifics on the intracacies of ventilated ribs.
pointing_dogs_rule
Re: Vent Rib..........WHY!!!! ? I'd have to agree that they may "only add an ounce or two to the totel weight". I also agree on the better plane of sight. Great analysis Tominator. good luck to all the dog

too_pointer
Re: Vent Rib..........WHY!!!! ? vent ribs look awesome I sure don't think they add much weight and you can get them in different heights, widths. I take all the help I can get. They also are great for adding on sights, especially fiber optics. too_
carbonhunter
Re: Vent Rib..........WHY!!!! ? I think ribs are nice. As I bring up the gun it lets me know my hands and body are lined up right, plus the bead sticks out like a sore thumb on a non-vent rib barrel, and that pulls you away from the task at hand,Proper, mount, swing, and follow threw
Exturkinator
Re: Vent Rib..........WHY!!!! ? I agree - I like the rib - nothing nicer than shouldering a well balanced shotgun and having your line of site zip right down the rib without any fidgeting or realignment... man where's my SX-2 when I need it!
