stevebeilgard
i can hardly believe that only 20% of those folks on this site don't write to their elected representatives about issues. i write all the time. believe me, the anti gun folks know how to write. if we don't, then forget your hunting rights and don't complain.... [/ QUOTE ] I'd bet it be about the same. Us hunters like to whine to one another, but we don't like making too much of a public stink about things. It's the whiners and complainers in this world, that change laws and policies, not the quiet folks who just enjoy living and don't really like to be in the lime-light.. Guest Jeremiah_Johnson
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL Must have missed that poll. I write mine all the time. It's easy now with e-mail. Most, if not all, representatives and Senators have e-mail. It's just too easy not to. My new representative actually had one of his people call me on a recent issue - always give your address and phone number; it shows you're serious. VermontHunter
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL Why was it we wear the uniform again ??? OH YEAH,, to PROTECT the RIGHTS and FREEDOMS we so justly deserve... Too bad the politicians have another agenda on their minds.... ,, On occassion I take pen in hand and mail a few lettters but they seem fruitless, or get me in trouble..... ,, I have a very hard time expressing myself on paper, and end up in left field at times when I sould be in right field... But I do write those letters tho....
ruttinbuc
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL What is amazing is how much attention is paid to the trivial stuff! When it comes to the important issues no one has the time. It does not shock me one bit when they say that only 1 in four Americans know what is in the first amendment, but most know at least tw0 Simpson characters. How many votes for an American Idol compared to a president?
Team Realtree
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL I posted it and have been watching it. I expected low numbers but not that low. What folks need to understand is that the internet has made it easy for all of us. Every gov. official has a website or some form of getting opinions to them. Use that link like you do these forums. When something is on your mind and you want your voice heard, email them. As far as not listening, that changes as soon as there are enough folks bringing issues to their attention. hutchies
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL Well guys the reason I don't write is because our Okie Government has grandfather claused hunting. They can't ever take it away. I am very happy with the way Oklahoma handles these types of situations.
RangerClay
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL I missed the survey but being from NY it's almost a weekly thing to write my Rep's. What about those issues that aren't specifically about "hunting" but related things like land conservation, wetland protection etc?
clayman
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL Folks, Having worked in "the system" for over a decade i can tell you that your letters and phone calls do help. If elected officials don't listen to you, they lose your vote, they know that. The problem is that the anti's and the tree-huggers do a better job of "grassroots" lobbying. Their emails and letters outnumber ours sometimes 5:1 or worse. Don't ever assume that your opinions fall on deaf ears. A math teacher used to use the example of a flock of sheep when trying to make a point...If one sheep in a flock of thousands goes missing it's no big deal right??? What about when hundreds of those sheep go missing one at a time??? You might be only one voice in a thousand, but if 900 "one voices" join together and express their point the politicians take notice. It's not usually individual legislators that have a personal "agenda", it's about legislators who know where their votes are on election day. If they don't hear from you, they can only assume that you are happy with what they are doing. Want to make a difference? sign up on the opposition's websites to receive their "action alerts". Then contact your rep's with a revised version that reflects our side of the issue. Share it with your friends and have them do the same. I think you all understand what's at stake. Never underestimate the difference that your calls, letters and emails DO make at our state and federal capitols.
Bruce Schmeck
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL I couldn't agree more. People use every excuse in the book for their lack of participation in these matters. Well, think about this, they are supposed to represent us! If they don't hear from US they have to, and will, assume everything is honky-dory. Every week I write to my local, state, and federal legislators and the White House on a wide array of issues ranging from abortion, border security, federal spending, tax issues, etc. to military spending and gun control issues. Even if you aren't good at expressing yourself there are many places that have prewritten messages that you can send as is, or edit accordingly, as well. If anyone is interested I can send them to some of these sites with a PM. Be forewarned: they are largely Republican/conservative based. okbowman
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL Have to agree on Oklahoma! And I do write them, we all should. Rhino
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL I'm one of the 20% that likes to be heard too. I'm also pretty surprised at the low percentage numbers. Too much apathy by citizens these days.

unioncountyslayer
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL Not only do I write and email gov. officials, I give financial support to my local/state grass roots orginazation that goes to bat for us gun owners. The NRA is great, and I'm a member, but I feel it's these organizations that truely exhaust every effort to keep our rights. www.grnc.org
LETMGROW
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL I have written many letters and I am glad to say most times I was glad to get a response. One time I got a form letter back from a state senator which really teed me off. When I wrote him back I got no response. He disagreed with my views on gun control and didn't care to discuss it. That was when I wrote every state senator and sent a copy of the form letter I received. Would you believe there were two other senators using the same form letter. My next letter to them was not too flattering. I still stay in contact with my upstate officials. At least I feel among the counted.

Nut
Re: ASHAMED OF CURRET POLL I have written more than once. I have had replies but not for every thing I had sent out. There was a couple times that their office called and talked with me on the issues. Even had a couple explain their side of the issue. I also had received form letters also.
