Guest Andrea
Okay....can anybody tell me how big a room has to be to put a pool table in it and be able to play pool without hitting the walls??? Looking at house plans and want one with a big enough room for a pool table. Thanks.
RangerClay
Re: Pool table question I had a pool table growing up. If it's a 8' table you will want a least six feet on each side. You only need about five feet to actually play but when you add other stuff/furniture in the room plus other people you may want room to move around. Remember your average cue stick is over 4 feet long. What if the cue ball was up against the bumper? You will need room behind you to make the shot. hutchies
Re: Pool table question Typical table is 4x8 and pool stick is probably 4-4.5 feet long. If you have to shoot from the rail I would say at least a 9x13

Can you give me some dimensions of a room that one would fit in and not be overly huge?

Guest Andrea
Re: Pool table question [ QUOTE ] 9x13 [/ QUOTE ] Wow, that's smaller than I thought. So a room that's 11X21 is plenty big enough!! Most of these plans include a bonus room upstairs that are around 11X21 or have a 4th bedroom/study that is around 12X14. Cool. Now to find a pool table. Thanks guys. Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Pool table question If you plan on putting it upstairs, HAVE IT DELIVERED AND INSTALLED!!!! And make sure the floor is properly braced to support the weight. If not, it will sag and you'll never keep the table level. Also, if you can afford it, a one piece slate is better than a three piece slate model.
texastrophies
Re: Pool table question a 4x8 foot table if it is centered in a 9x13 foot room will only leave 2.5 feet outside of the playing surface of the table. add about 6 inches for on each side for the table itself and you are now down to just 2 foot between the table and the wall. That would be extremely difficult. Might want to up those dimensions to something more like 14'x18'.

Yeah, I was wondering about putting a couch in there and a tv and stereo system. May have to have a floorplan custom-designed.

Widowmaker
Re: Pool table question I was going to say, a 9 x 13 room would definitely not be big enough. Don't forget that you have to walk to the other end of the table and have the same room!!! Ideally it would be 12 x 16. That would give you 4 feet all the way around. Hoyt03
Re: Pool table question Any place that has pool table will have a room size chart. It all depends on table size and how long your cues are. Here is the best site I've found for a table at an awesome price. web page I bought a table off ebay from this company for 400$ 8ft brand new. It retails for 4,000$ Of course if you want it installed and shipped thats gonna run you a little extra. All in all you can get a great table from this place to your door for under a grand. Thats gonna be hard to top. PS: their prices are all higher then a grand on their website, but you can catch the deals on the ones they list on ebay, they sell all different kinds there. I do not really think it matters how long your cues are because they will all be around the same length (minus jump and break cues which will vary in both size and weight more drastically). Average length is a lil more than 57 inches... so if your serious i wouldn't go smaller than 13' 8" x 17' 8" (without furniture). If your still in a jam talk to steve at the insidepool.com forums, he knows alot an likes to help out. \ Builing the house around doesnt sound like tood bad of an idea either. RangerClay
Re: Pool table question Hi Andrea, Sorry but I logged off for dinner. Our pool table was in a room that was 18x24 and we had plenty of room for other stuff. I figure a 4x8 table needs a minimum of 5 feet on each side. That's 14x18 MINIMUM just to play comfortably. Get red felt. It's soooooooooo cool Joe
BowJoe
Re: Pool table question I have one more piece of advice for you on your room. You may want to go with the standard pool hall wall coverings such as Wainscoating at least to 4 or 5 feet high. When a shot flies off the table you don't want it to hit a sheet rock wall. A faux rock wall would look nice but you don't want to chip your balls or the rock. A darker color such as the dark green makes the dark felt green blend in nicely or whatever color of felt you get on your table. You want to either go with a linoleum floor or some sort of one piece reinforced flooring. I wouldn't buy any small, multi pieced flooring because of settling and chipping. Carpet would be a definate no no because it could take months or even years before it would have no noticable tilting. A good solid concrete under linoleum floor would be perfect. Good luck. Guest Andrea
Re: Pool table question Well the house plan I am debating on has the gameroom above the garage. It is 16'X 22'. That oughta be big enough. And YES......I love wainscoting and plan on putting that stuff in quite a few rooms. I will never have carpet in my house again. And red felt does look good. Guess we'll cross that bridge when we get there. Thanks guys!!!
