But that's what I was fishin for!!! Went out to my "honey hole" pond this evening to kill some time, throw a crappie jig. First cast, WHAM!!!! reel it in, 5.5lb BASS!!!! Unbeleivable part, I caught it on a 1/16oz White/Red headed, red hook jig with a white curly tail on it, 4lb test STREN, and a 5' light action rod, Mitchell light action reel. Fish was barely hooked, how I managed to land it I'll never know.

yep--with a 2# slug of lead in that gut in MIGHT go 5 1/2 pounds grin.gifgrin.gif

Everyone catches a 3# bass: Until they put it on the scale: Nice fish, however.......I would guess the estimate is that...an estimate:

Great fish! But a bass over 5#'s is a monster in these parts:

Sorry you feel that I have construed the weight of this fish, but according to the POSTAL scales it was weighed on, it did indeed hit the 5 and a half pound mark.

Jason: My appolgies: I actually tried to go and edit my post, because I didn't mean to sound like a jerk, and that post indeed came off as being a jerk: I was too late to edit, so my posting this is my appology:

Around here, a 5# bass is crazy, huge! And looking at the pics I thought it didn't look as large as 5#'s...but fish are different everywhere! A 5lb bass is a great catch!

Here are a couple of pics I got this past year:

This bass was 20" and weighed (on the digital scale) at 3.7

This one was 3.14 pounds, just under 20": 383290.jpg

This was my best for the day: At 3.15 pounds, and 21 inches 383292.jpg

And my buddy got the big bass of the day this 5.8 pounder was just over 21-1/2 inches long: A MONSTER around here:

All of these fish were caught on slip bobbers or spinner baits while fishing from shore.
