AJ
Yep, I have one. Its the most versitile, strongest, and powerful mass produced muzzleloader on the market. You can shoot loads from as mild as you want all the way up to teeth chattering, shoulder jarring loads that will take anything that walks this planet. The vent liner acts sort of like a check valve. It keeps blowback to a minimum but still allows the primer to ignite the powder charge. As far as loads, it depends on what bullets you want to shoot. I shoot 250 gr SST and Shockwaves out of mine in MMP sabots. As far as powders, there are a few good choices like Accurate XMP5744, Vhit N110, IMR and Hodgdon 4198, and IMR-SR4759, all give good speed and accuracy. You have to find out what exact charges your gun likes by experimenting at the range. There are still a lot of misconceptions and myths floating around about the Savage and other smokeless muzzleloaders. Many dealers and big retailers that bad mouth them are talking out their butts because they don't know what they are talking about. Probably the best on line source about information on the Savage ML is Doug's Board. There are a couple of individuals that have developed a lot of loading data there and they are willing to help out newbies. I highly recommend using the search function before asking the same questions others have.
popgun
Re: savage ml AJ, Randy Wakeman, and DanielBoone already know that I am a real "Flag Waver" for the Savage 10MLII, but I think AJ covered everything I could say about the Savage Smokeless. It is definitely the best I have ever owned or shot. ....popgun
David_218
Re: savage ml While I am uncertain about this, but I have heard on some Indiana Hunting Forums, that the use of modern inlines and especially those which use smokeless powder will be restricted to the modern Gun season. This means, only sidelocks & Flintlocks will only be legal during the M/L season in December. As I said, I've heard nothing more said about this rule change. We'll just have to wait & see what the State of Indiana's IDNR decides.

LETMGROW
Re: savage ml I have a feeling as long as states take in big bucks for additional tags they aren't going to restrict any type of muzzeloader soon. JMO.
slugshooter
Re: savage ml I remember a thread going on in here, probably back when I first started visiting the forums, so we're talking over 2 years, about a well known hunter/shooter who was employed by Savage to test the smokeless ML back when it was basically being developed. If I'm not mistaken, the barrel blew apart on him and he severed all ties with Savage and basically went on to rail about how dangerous the rifle was. I am not sure what the outcome of this was but I know more than a few people suggested that the problem lied with the shooter, not the rifle. I haven't heard of any other problems like that. [/ QUOTE ] Slugshooter, Your timeline of events are off. He was released by Savage then his gun magically "blew up". Savage customer service has been outstanding with people that have encountered problems with their 10 ML II guns. Some shooters have bulged barrels (due to shooter negligence) and Savage has replaced them.
Guest RandyWakeman
Re: savage ml Henry Ball developed modern smokeless muzzleloading some 16 years ago. The Savage is now in its 6th consecutive year of production. Savage Arms, this year, is even fielding a team at the NMLRA World Manufacturer's Championships in Friendship.
