superguide
Re: 300 wsm load for moose that's a great set up for moose-they are kind of faint hearted at best.
AJ
Re: 300 wsm load for moose I would not hesitate to use a 180 gr on a moose from any of the .30 caliber magnums. Even with a 308 Winchester or a 30-06 would do the trick. A moose is not exactly a small critter so the vital area is fairly huge. Accuracy from most guns would be sufficient to hit them where you need to, out to some far distances. Giving the terrain moose typically are found in I don't think that there would be that many long distance shots. Just guessing on that, I may be wrong though. [/ QUOTE ] I agree with AJ, my group hunts almost exclusively with 30-06, 180 grs.( we do use well built bullets in case we have to punch through a shoulder etc after a poorly shot moose) and this size works extremely well. The lungs are large, and surprisingly enough in our experiences a moose hit through the lungs have probably not gone as far as a deer hit in a similar fashion. The vitals are big and where we hunt (alot of mixed timber and clearcuts) we get a lot of chances at longer shots, we respect are shooting abilities and try to keep our shots to 150 yds or less if possible. Though I have heard of alot of the locals where we hunt reaching out well beyond that.
Guest Colorado Bob
Re: 300 wsm load for moose Diddo on what has already been said. Your 180 grain PP should be fine & I would not hesitate shooting out to 300 yards with your 300 WSM. Good luck & besure to post a photo of that bull. Shaun_300
Re: 300 wsm load for moose I shoot .300 WSM as well. I think the 180gr PP's would be great for moose. That's what dad used to use out of his .300 Win Mag, which is almost identical, ballistically speaking to the .300 WSM. If they shoot well out of your gun, and you're comfortable with that load, I would use them.

Canadian_Goose
Re: 300 wsm load for moose well in that case... no your 300 wsm won't work... it's only good as a varmit gun... you need at least.. at least a .338 (or if you have one of those choose a larger caliber). Do not hesitate to use this post as a refrence, i'd say the .300 wsm is effective on moose only up to about 15 yards. Better get that new gun .
