You woulda figured that Hollywood would have had it's way with that one. But it only got the "best adapted screenplay" award. LMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was really glad that Reese Witherspoon got best actress for her portrayal of June Cash in Walk the Line. Too bad Joaquin Phoenix didn't get best actor. Crash got best movie. I never understood the hype about all the Oscars, Academy Awards, Music awards.....seems like there's an award for everyone so they don't get their feelings hurt. It's pathetic. There's so many different awards shows even. Seems like there is an awards show every month! I can't even keep track of them, or even tell the difference. If you're going to have movie awards, make ONE show a year and include all movie awards. Sorry, I guess you could call these awards one of my pet peeves.... We got home pretty late and as I was flippng thru the channels...they were about to announce the winner for best motion picture. So of course, I had to see if they would give it to BBM. This one sure got a lot of publicity because of it's content. It's pretty controversial. Heck.....we have talked about it ( or joked rather) here at RT for a while. And there have been many times when popular movies have taken best picture. For instance: Unforgiven ( Clint Eastwood) Braveheart ( Mel Gibson) Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and The Silence of the Lambs. Well, I was sitting there one night looking at a people magazine whilst I was getting my truck fixed....it was all they had to distract me from the owner's daughter sitting there watching back to from or around the future, which ever it was. I came to a section about romances that started at first glance. Turned the page and just about soiled myself. Two cowboys. One almost ran over the other at a GAY RODEO....the almost victim thought to himself "I thank it wuz the marlboro man". I about soiled myself laughing at the rediculousness of that piece, made relevant (Not really) by bareback hunting....oh wait, that's a mix of two. We were talking gay so obviously I confused Ben Affliction and his Good will hunting with bareback mounting. Sorry. Sad state of affairs....the gays have come out of the closet and pushed anyone who proclaims any religious tendencies (except Islam of course) in and slammed and locked the door. On a serious note; I really could care less if a guy is gay or not. I have a few gay customers and they are very easy to work with and pay there bills right away. Not sure if it's a "gay thing" but they are good customers. I wish that I could say that all of my straight clients were that way. On the other hand why would anyone even be remotely interested in a movie about two gay cowboys??? Are we Americans really that bored??? I just don't get it. The last few years the acadamy was getting pretty political, thats sad to me I love the theater, it should be about great stories and imagination, not fat stuffy men. I could have cared less if it had won and as far as I am concerned I am glad Crash won because I have seen that movie twice and could watch it many more times. The fact that a movie was made that depicts two male cowboys who happen to fall in love with each other is immaterial, because, lets face it, the image most of us have of the American cowboy being some rough and tumble John Wayne type person is nothing but a stereotype necessitated by decades of westerns showing noon shootouts outside of saloons, which by all accounts is one of the false stereotypes because there was only one documented "high noon standoff" in history. If ya'll want someone to attack about this movie, why not go after the woman who wrote the book in the first place. I've seen and heard about worse movies in Hollywood than this, and none of them have affected me negatively in any way just like this movie has affected none of us here negatively in any way. If anyone on here has been emotionally scarred by the making of Brokeback Mountain, then I do apologize and I also would suggest counseling. Fiction is fiction. Noone is holding a gun to yours, mine, or anyone else's head forcing you to watch anything with homosexual themes in it. Have I watched a movie with a gay theme? Yep, but noone forced me to or shoved it into my face. If you don't want to watch it, don't buy the ticket and change the channel. I would buy the glorification argument if the majority of the movies and shows coming from Hollywood were homosexual in nature, but they aren't, it's a small percentage. I heard that Phoenix refused to do radio interviews for the movie and was basically a jerk to the cast and crew of the movie. As far as BBM, it wasn't us making the big deal out of the movie as much as it was the gay rights people and the pro gay television people shoving it in our face every time you turn on the radio or the news. I disagree with homosexuality but I too work with several people that are gay and most of them couldn't be nicer. While I may morally disagree with them, I am not their judge and we all answer to the same God whether we like it or not. I don't think it's a sin being gay or not, I just think it's a sin when you do gay things or have gay thoughts. But no more than when you think lustful thoughts for Jessica Simpson or any other beautiful person whether they be on the streets or on TV. A sin is a sin is a sin. I was getting tired of hearing all the hype about it on tv as well and yes it was shoved in our faces on TV and in newspapers. Then there was that college student that asked President Bush if he had seen Brokeback Mountain at a town hall type meeting at a college. You have the leader of the free nation and can ask him anything you want and you ask a stupid question like that!! Gladiator was one of Johnny's favorite movies. I read an interview and story about Joaquin a month or so ago where some of his friends commented about his vegetarianism. He said they have BBQ's a lot and Joaquin comes to all of them and never says anything about others eating meat. He doesn't seem to have a problem with it unlike some other Hollywood PETA freaks. As far as the family being raised hippies. Definitely a strange family when you read about them but they seem like a peaceful clan. If I am not mistaken the family lives on a farm now in Gainesville, FL or did for quite some time, kinda cool knowing they lived not too far up the road from where I grew up.
