SuperMn106
I have to give it to everyones fathers, grandfathers or who ever else did this back in the day for their families. my dad has a hydralic log splitter on the back of his tractor. well the other day it broke. So being a nice guy i decided to hand split with an axe some wood for my parents. i am 21 and think im in not bad shape. i split about 10 logs and man did it ware me out. that is definitly some hard work. makes you appreciate how people in the old days did for their families. SuperMn106
Re: Splitting Wood thanks shaun me too lol. i have to go tommorow and get the part for my dad so he can fix it. i have been cuttin down dead trees and cutting them up to help us get by. we have a wood stove that goes into our duck work that heats our house, it keeps the house about 73 all the time. a little warm for me but my mom loves it and you gotta keep the woman happy lol
MCH
Re: Splitting Wood Worked summers through school tree trimming and splitting wood. Got pretty good at it. Give me a straight piece of oak and I could bust 'em with one hand. There was a man down the road that used to split wood without using his hands!!! He'd stick the handle up his butt and do flips.....
arrow32
Re: Splitting Wood Last summer we had to cut up 3 trees down at my uncles with the axes because the splitter wouldnt run. Hope you get it fixed soon.

Turkeygirl
Re: Splitting Wood My mom way back when, before we were born and I think sometime after, when she moved out here to the country, chopped wood by herself, go mom! lol
007hunter
Re: Splitting Wood Bunch of pansies!! Who uses them confangled hydraulic log splitters anyway? According to my father splitting wood, along with many other unpleasant activities, builds character!
Tominator
Re: Splitting Wood I just split a bunch that Ohiobucks and I cut up on Saturday. I actually like splitting wood. Something about swinging a 9lb mull that really works out tension.

RangerClay
Re: Splitting Wood I really enjoy splitting wood. The guys at hunting camp think I'm crazy. After weeks of my students and parents telling me how to do my job I find it very therapeutic. Ranger
QDMAworks4me
Re: Splitting Wood I usually split wood with our splitter during April vacation from school (usually about 10 days). I have been doing it for as many years as I can remember. Everyone else is headed to Myrtle beach and I was headed to the woods. We usually start about 7 in the moning and work until about 5 then go home and stack it all during the night, get back up and do it again. I am the youngest and just happen to be the strongest of our family (lucky me) We cut all the wood for 5 homes that week. It is a long week but it nice to have all the wood cut for the next year. wtnhunt
Re: Splitting Wood Have not burned wood in several years, but used to split it with a maul. Got a hydraulic splitter for the tractor, but have not used it in a long time.
HarvDog
Re: Splitting Wood I kind of enjoy it when I get a chance to split wood. Probably because I really don't HAVE to. I simply push a button on a remote control and my gas fireplace turns on and keeps me nice and warm.
Ravin R10 man
Re: Splitting Wood you just have to know how to "read" the grain in the wood....its an art..LOL
Jimfrompa
Re: Splitting Wood My wood splitting days are over. But in my 20's I could split wood all day just for fun. It is a lot harder when you "HAVE" to do it though. But I do miss being able to do that kind of work. Keep doing it and it will be easier. SuperMn106
Re: Splitting Wood well guys i split some more today. it was kinda fun this time, my dad fixed the hydraulic one so he was using that and i was using the axe. my dad showed me that if i only took out little pieces and not try to split it in half the first time it is easier. it is a good way to get out some aggression (sp?) lol. too_pointer
Re: Splitting Wood Splitting wood is fine but also alot of hard work. I split 2 cords last summer, and ended up having emergency heart surgery right afterwords. Everyone, please be careful and don't overdue it. Jeramie
Re: Splitting Wood Old days my right eye! I grew up splitting wood for the fireplace. I made sure my houses had that electric heat! There are tricks you learn that help. Not using an axe is a good one, another is stay away from "Black Jack." Id ten to one rather split pine or Oak.
