Only time I have hit one with a shotgun was last year at about 40 or so yards with #5 shot 3 inch winchester high velocity turkey load in the face while sitting on the ground turkey hunting. Very small vital area on a yote and if they are out a ways you have a way better chance of getting multiple hits. Don't use steel steel. BB and BBB tungsten waterfowl loads are just deadly.
