Have you been scuba diving?

This has always been on my "to do" list. Something about it just facinates me. My Zoology professor recently said this is something everyone must do in their lifetime (or snorkel) and view the coral reefs in person. Plan on doing it someday.....Let's hear the stories, and if you had an underwater cam at the time, let's see some pics!

Re: Have you been scuba diving?

I've done both. I went snorkeling in the bahamas when I was in college and there are not words to describe it accurately. I saw literally thousands of fish most were very colorfull and really cool. I saw some small sharks and rays and one really big baracuta. It's actually better than what you see in books or on t.v., much like the difference of watching a hunting show and being out in the woods.

I've been scuba diving a few times in Beaver Lake in NW AR. We were next to some white rock bluffs and visibility was about 30 feet. We popped open some musles and fed them to the fish, mostly perch, but there was 1 bass that came in that was probibly 5-7lbs. It's hard to say, they look a lot different when your down there with them. If I ever had the chance to scuba dive on a reef I would jump on it.

Re: Have you been scuba diving?

My wife and I went scuba diving and snorkeling in Cancun. The scuba wasn't so great. From what I hear, Cozumel is the place to go in Mexico. We seen some cool stuff, but we seen more when we went snorkeling.

It's something I would do again if I ever get to a better dive place. I would snorkel just about anywhere though.

I've been scuba diving in fresh water. But there's no way I would go in the Gulf. For one....there are no coral reefs in the Gulf. You have to dive the wrecks to see any fish.

And I would absolutely FREAK OUT if I saw a shark. They have quite a taste for human flesh around the panhandle. crazy.gifcrazy.gif

Besides...........if you really wanna take up scuba diving then DO NOT watch the movie "Open Water". grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

I've logged a hundred or so dives with tanks over the years and thousands of snorkle dives. Spent 2 years living on a 32 foot sloop mostly in the Bahamas. Crewed a couple of boats on Australia's Great Barrier Reef years ago.

tank dives in:

Australia, Bahamas, Belize, Cook Islands, Honduras, Fiji, Mexico, Florida, and Hawaii (just this month). The Best diving I've seen was in Roatan, Honduras.

Re: Have you been scuba diving?

Hey Ryan, there is a Dive School on Yale across from Sams. You can get certified and it cuts out a TON of time when actually going to dive.

We want to take a cruze in the next few years. I want to dive and fish for the big fish then! Its on my plan.
