Re: Who still drags their own deer

Its the only way to get them out of the areas I hunt.I've been hunting for 15 years now and only brought two deer out on a 4 wheeler.I still drug them about 40 yards before I could get the bike to them. All others were drug out to the road and loaded on my vehicle.Longest drag was a 120.lbs 6pt that was a last day deer. There was over a foot of snow and I drug him about 800 yards or so.No better way to finish off a hunt, except when the backstraps go on the grill and I open a POP!!

Deer cart.....best money I ever spent too.....I have an ATV , but prefer the silent ride........shot one out back at the top of my hill....drug him down to the creek for cleaning.....then up the hill in my deer cart to the house.......it was easier carting him up hill.....than dragging down hill....carts are very sweet and can hook it to the ATV....but only shot him a few hundred yards from the house....it was great !

Well...you know where the kollow area is in the heel? We cut that open on each of the back legs and take an old rake handle and slide it through on either end, then, one person takes one side and another the other side and we just drag it back like that. We also like to eat the deer heart so we keep that in the chest cavity as we drag it and it doesn't fall out.

Drag with rope. My bro and I dragged a buck he shot over 300 yards out of an old timber clearin.... the thing had lost a patch of hair the size of melon. That was icy, bumpy and stumpy! That was a long drag. Oh and one time I was dragging a deer down hill through some thick brush and I took a tumble and managed to cut my had with my knife that went flying from my sheath. That was last year.

I still drag my own when hunting by myself. It's a real pain sometimes where I hunt (swamp) but one thing is for certain these smaller deer in Fl are a lot easier than those monsters in the mid-west and up north. It seems the older I get the heavier these deer get.... shocked.gif

We as Americans are getting fatter and fatter all the time.

We and our toys are responsible for our own obesity dur to our laziness.

That being said. I don't drag mine either. grin.gif I let my buddy drag it for me. wink.gif

In all honesty. It's good exercise and I do drag mine as well as friends deer.

I drag mine out and sometimes it can be a pretty long drag. This coming year I will try a deer cart for the first time. There will probably still be a drag to where the cart can be used but anything to reduce the wear and tear on the body might just mean a few more years that I can hunt. I may even try the cart for getting elk quarters out instead of carrying them on my back.

There's a difference between laziness and convenience. I'm in the best shape of my life, but I enjoy conveniences! smile.gif

Very true but it's that convenience that has lead to our country's high level of obesity. You and I are smart enough to realize that and care, unlike much of society that blames everyone and everything for their problems. wink.gif

There surely are health reasons to use a quad or even a game cart. For those that need them or want to use them..yeehhaa! They sure can make the experience possible and even more enjoyable.

I know some that without the use of one would not hunt ever again. Great tools they are.

I drag all of mine and its not because we dont have access to a quad or I dont wanna disturb the woods cuz between the dogs and all the other 4 wheelers from the track down the road I dont think that would be an issue haha. I just cant manage to get a quad in to most of the stuff we hunt. Its funny how ya put dogs out in the field and then the deer end up in the thickest nasties cutover with the biggest briars youve ever seen in your life haha. BUT they jumped the deer in the field. Like the deers got a secret plan to never be found if hes shot lol. But that is why I always have a 2 foot machete in the toolbox of my truck and a pack saw. I love that machete, gotten me through more briar thickets and cut and burn-overs than you can imagine.
