dogdoc
With the severe drought here in Oklahoma I decided to build a little dock on my pond. I started the project about a month ago and the front posts were about 2 feet away from the shore of the pond. Kind of wished I would have waited a little longer and I could have put the dock further out but didn't think the severe drought would continue this long. The posts are old telephone/electrical poles. The bases are treated 2X6 and the walkway is decking boards. The kids will have fun fishing off of this if we ever get some rain. You can tell in the last picture how short of moisture we have been in the last 6 months. I think it's going to be a while before that dock sees any water. todd

bfletch7441
Re: Finished a little project.... You guy's will have a lot of fun with that. I put one like that on my dad's pond about 10 year's ago, and everyone in the family has enjoyed it a lot. A lot of rain, and a nice sunny day is all you need to put that baby to use. Tominator
Re: Finished a little project.... **In my best Forrest Gump voice** "Ummm, Todd, you don't have any water in your pond." Looks good Todd. I might put a little more support on that walkway. Looks like it might be a little "springy."
RyanH
Re: Finished a little project.... Todd, You should make some Fake trees to put out there while its low! Get a 5 gallon Bucket put concrete in it with a 2x4 and make a couple crosses like a tree! I hear that works really well!

huntinsonovagun
Re: Finished a little project.... Quick, add on while the water's low!! Looks good! Get some cover built to put in front of that dock. Shipping crates work good!

bfletch7441
Re: Finished a little project.... Don't put too much stuff out front, or you'll spend more time tying on jigs than you will fishing. That brush pile you have looks just about perfect. Ben
KirkV
Re: Finished a little project.... I use 1" pvc pipe the length you want in a 5 gallon bucket full of concrete. Stick them out at all angles for cover and the crappie love them. Plus you jig will come right through them without getting hung! The brush under the dock will also be a fish magnet. buckee
Re: Finished a little project.... Hmmmmmmm...That's still a pretty long cast for the kids, there, Todd What's the brush pile for under the dock ? Is that there, just in case you want to have a safe bon-fire, or is that what ya call, "future fish Habitat"
hutchies
Re: Finished a little project.... Amazing the things you'll find when the pond goes down. Just look there was a dang truck in there.

AaronS
Re: Finished a little project.... Looks great Todd. Looks like you could set a couple of new telephone poles not and extend the dock if you want. Buckee, the brush pile under the dock is rabbit cover. dogdoc
Re: Finished a little project.... My dad and I were seriously thinking about putting two more poles out and extending it out about 3 more feet. Still might if I find the time. No brush or cover is going in front of the dock. I want a place where the kids can drop and hook and bobber and not get hung up on every other cast. I think the brush pile under the dock should attract enough small perch for the girls. Chris--I actually had 2 treated 4x4 to use as support for the walk way but they were not needed. The support bracket consists of very heavy iron with two long pieces welded together on each side for extra support. We (me, my dad, and a friend) all stood on it today and didn't give at all--well over 500#. All I need is rain. BTW--no crappie in the pond. Bass, catfish, and perch. Crappie are fun to fish for but can overpopulate a small pond in no time. thanks guys todd
