What would you do-repair or replace?

Our old kenmore dryer is just not getting clothes dry like it should. The heating element is bad I am pretty sure that is the problem, it takes about 3 times the length of time it used to, to dry a load resulting in more electric usage. The wife kind of wants me to get a new one, so I wont have to work on it. The parts to fix it are like $60 with shipping, I see the money I save going towards something I need or want down the road. What would you do?

For $60.00 you might want to fix it if that indeed will fix it. Some of the older kenmore's are better than some of the newer ones out there.

I have a new style Kenmore dryer and its nice but was expensive but it saves money but sensing when clothes are dry and saves energy or that is what they tell us. Was expensive is all I know!

I'd go for the repair and in the meantime see what is out there for dryers are what they cost. They can go from $200.00 up to $1000.00!!!

Good luck!

I'm dealing with that same issue right now with one of my dryers. I would definitely just repair it especially since you know exactly what the problem is. By the way, how did you determine it was the heating element? How old is the dryer?

We just replaced our dryer last year. We had been repairing it for a while and just decided that it had served us well for 12 years. So we got a nice shiny new one. cool.gif

It's so quiet and takes HALF the time to dry clothes now. wink.gif

My next appliance purchase?? A front loading washer. cool.gifcool.gif

I am just the opposite. I go towards replacing the appliance. The newer ones are a lot more efficient than your repaired old one it will be faster, and pay for its self in time. If the cash is there to replace it, I get a new one and donate the old one to goodwill or something like that.

Well, we've had ours for 28 years now (Maytag), and they have both been fixed a few times over. My wife wants a new washer and dryer (stackable).

Maybe you had better get them for her before she decides she wants a new husband! smirk.gif

Yeah, nut a new husband might be cheaper grin.gif (just kidding...eh) She wants a new freezer, a new roof on the place, a new back door and hardwood floor in the hall (which I am working on now). My "honey-do" list is a mile long, and there's not one cheap thing on there. grin.gif

It is a 13 year old kenmore harv. It takes the dryer a lot longer to heat up than it used to and it has gotten progressively worse. I really dont see anything else that could cause it to take so long to heat up.
