Guest jduffy03
Hey guys, This past fall was an awesome one for me. I stalked this guy on my stomach for over an hour! He, along with four other bucks, were watching over a hot doe. My dad and I saw this buck 2 nights in a row and 2 mornings in a row in the very same spot! I finally arrowed him on the forth sighting (the 2nd morning) when the wind was right for a stalk. The area he was in was just a pasture with a drainage ditch, so there was really no place to set up with a bow, that's why I had to try to stalk him. I got within 20 yards and made a quartering away shot. He only ran about 60 yards! He grossed about 135 P&Y. What a hunt!!

Guest jduffy03
Re: Fall 2005 Archery Buck Oh by the way guys, here is something else that I thought many would like to know......only about 1 1/2 hours before I shot this guy, about a half mile away I had a very close encounter with 2 out of the 4 bucks that watched over the hot doe. I had saw the buck I shot scare off 2 of the smaller bucks finally and I saw them enter into one of our treebelts. The wind was also right for a stalk on these guys(at the time I thought the one was a pretty decent 4x4). So I entered the trees about 1/4 mile downwind of where I saw the 2 bucks enter. I eventually snuck down the trees within sight of these bucks. I came to full draw on the 4x4 twice before I finally decided that this 5x5 (that I later shot) looked way nicer to hold out for. Eventually the other buck of the 2 ( a forky) circled downwind of me. I had my back against a tree and had my scentlock on. Finally he started coming back towards me and the 4x4 and he was on a trail that came within inches of my tree that I was stading by! At this moment I was just waiting for him to smell me but he never did! That forky literally walked a foot and a half away from me!!!! And to top it off, when the fork was mostly by me....I reached out with my knocked arrow on my bow and poked him on the back. But he didnt notice right away.....he just stopped ( I think he thought he brushed up against a branch) so I poked him a 2nd time and he ran like heck!!! The other 4x4 stood within 15 yards wondering what had happened!! Eventually the forky got curioius and came back. Then I started to play with my grunt call with them. I eventually had to move b4 I spooked both bucks!! This was a very exciting experience!! And to top it all off, I later arrowed this 5x5 after stalking for an hour!!!! I'd have to say this is one of my most memorable (and crazy) hunting experiences ever!!! P.S. I was worried for a second about what that forky would do when I poked him at 2 feet!!! Yikes!!! Guest jduffy03
Re: Fall 2005 Archery Buck Thanks AvantageT, I may have a tip or 2 to share. I have been deer hunting for about 10 years now and it has become literally my life!!! I started out just rifle hunting but then a year or two later I wanted to try this relatively "new" concept of whitetail hunting with a compound bow. I was hooked instantly!!! I love it!!
