Recoil on a .22

On another forum, we have talked about scopes for a .22 with different opinions. Quite a few people think that a .22 will be hard on cheaper scopes, and others say almost any scope will be alright. I do have a Nikon 2x7 on mine, never went too cheap and also never had any problems. Any opinions in here about this ? I have heard that airguns are very hard on scopes because of the reverse recoil, but I really can't see a .22 being like that confused.gif

Re: Recoil on a .22

What? A .22 hard on a scope?

I cant believe that. Ive put cheap scopes on .22's and had them perform great. The best scope I ever mounted on an old savage was a cheap Tasco 4x32 (Pronghorn). It was perfect and I could drill treerats easily.

When I go out to shoot I will shoot for hours. If I had to guess I would say I ran through at least 2-3 bricks of ammo in that .22 so youre looking at well over 1000 rounds and honestly probably double to tripple that. I NEVER had to resite the gun. Once I had zero, it stayed.

Re: Recoil on a .22

I do think you left out some information. A 22 lr semi auto can be hard on scopes compared to other guns due to its constant pounding by the bolt going forwards. When the bolt face slams on the barrel shank it can send vibrations through the gun that are hard on the scope. Recoil from the rimfire does not do any harm to a scope but the bolt slamming can.

Which I would assume equates to the same problem as air rifles. Why then are there not different scopes for higher power centerfire rifles in semi-auto?

Re: Recoil on a .22

I have a Bushnell 3-7x .22 scope on my Browning BL .22 LR. That thing can literally drive tacs and always could have. I've never had a problem with the scope on that gun. I also have that scope on my Winchester 9422 in .22 win mag, but a 3-8x, again, I've never had accuracy problems with that gun either.
