Re: Pro-Staffers

A Prostaffer should be dedicated to there employers

or equipment providers by promoting not only the equipment but by having and maintaining a high standard of ethics while doing so. And at the same time keeping there own feet firmly planted. God Family and friends remain a priority

I have no idea what benefits some of them have from the company they represent.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'll tell you what benefits the vast majority of them get. Unless you are a big-time staffer for a large company.........a staffer that has immediate name and face recognition by the general sporting public.......... the Michael Waddells and Walter Parrotts, etc............. you get product, some meals, some staff apparel, a hunt here or there (maybe) and the chance to meet a lot of really good people. The overwhelming majority of staffer positions are basically unpaid ones.

Re: Pro-Staffers

Personally, i didn't see an answer in the above I didn't agree with.

I think it all boils down to RESPECT for anyone who has earned the title Pro-Staff.

Somewhere along the way they have shown an intrest in a particular product, become knowledgable about it, and are promoting it in some way. Hopefully they will share their knowledge to better educate us as users of a product.

Re: Pro-Staffers

A Pro Staffer is above and beyond, a PR man for that particular Company. In whatever he or she does, its to better the company as a TEAM player. It's also UNSELFISH committment, for the betterment of the products, services, and goals of that company.

That being said, with this job comes long days and even weeks away from family, promoting the products all the while maintaining a public image of the highest standards for that company.

Re: Pro-Staffers

Yeah, a Pro-staffer is always commited to their company and sponsors and will go the extra mile to help make the company the best it can be. I wish I could be one, but I doubt it'll happen. Maybe if I win a national turkey calling championship it might happen! Lol!

What is your definition of a Pro Staffer as far as it relates to the hunting industry? Just curious if folks know what the job entails.

OK Scott....Basically a Pro Staffer represents the company that he is associated by promoting their products. They can do this by just simply using the products. Some even promote them publicly but not all the Pro Staffers do this. A few write hunting articles too but that's more of an exception to the rule.

In return....most just get the company products to use at no cost. They also get, as a benefit, recognition within the hunting industry as a professional. Very few get paid for it in $. Some even get to appear on company sponsered hunts but all of them don't benefit from this if the company even has these type of hunts.

Re: Pro-Staffers

Very good comments.

There were several reasons for posting this. As you all know it has become a huge part of the industry. A lot of folks want to be a "Pro-Staffer" and a lot of folks don't like the whole concept.

It does have to do a lot with marketing. It has a lot to do with PR. I like to think of them as what the word "Pro" stands for and that is promotional (not professional). I guess you can consider the ones that make a living doing it professional, but that is a very small minority.

The thing folks need to understand is the majority of these guys (and gals) have full time jobs. They don't hunt for a living. If they did, they would have a hard time making ends meet. Either way, whether they do it on the side or are lucky enough to do it full time, it is hard. I've seen enough over the years to know that there is no way I could do it. And that's coming from someone that loves to hunt.

Just thought this would make an interesting thread. I enjoyed reading through it. S

Re: Pro-Staffers

I thought id shed some light on being a pro-staffer. I work a full time job, full time father, husband and try to get in around 10 outdoor shows, store opening etc a year. Then I ususally do 3-4 hunts out of state a year. Its tough sometimes 2 years ago I would work 2 double shifts at the jail( monday ,tuesday) have wednesday off to see family, pack and fly thursday and back home on sunday afternoon. And back at work 2 doubles ,pack wednesday and off agin thursday in a airport. I did it for 5 weeks! Thankfully I have a good ,understanding wife and daughter and usually take them a least 2 times with me. When I do this I generally work for free since my pay covers there travel expenses. Lasy year they went to Denver and Michigan with me for a show. This way she gets to see whats its all about. Dont get me wrong there are good ..er great points All the people iget to meet in shows and so on , the forum members meets that have gotten popular . And there are other benefits as well. Its a dream come true for me and in 8yrs I can retire from work and do more. Thats about it .. I truley love doing it and the people at Realtree are fantatic people !!

Re: Pro-Staffers

Interesting thread. I've never been on a hunting related prostaff, but when I bass fished professionally in the mid 80's I was sponsered by Skeeter Boats, Mercury, Humminbird, Trilene and a local tackle shop. I was expected to use their products almost exclusively and I was required to conduct myself at all times in a manner that reflected well on them and on the sport. I would work (yeah, really work) at 2 or 3 boat shows, fish numerous high profile tournaments, and participate (either conducting or fishing) in several charity events each year. In exchange, I was either given equipment or was able to purchase equipment at a greatly reduced cost. I was also invited to fish in certain high profile tournaments with lucrative payouts that weren't open to the public.
