need2hunt
I'm considering doing a few changes to my Remington 870. I'll be putting on a sims pad and a fiber optic bead on it. I'm also considering getting a RT Hardwoods synthetic stock for it as well. Anyway my question is are the synthetic stocks lighter than the wood stocks? Also is it pretty easy to change the stocks out?
AJ
Re: Synthetic Stocks Yep, most of the synthetic stocks are injection molded stocks and are a bit lighter than the wood versions. Changing stocks is just a matter of 3 screws. There are two screws holding the recoil pad on and one long screw holding the action to the buttstock. When you remove recoil pad, take an exacto knife and make a small incision where the screws are in the face of the pad. Place a drop of oil on the screwdriver's shaft. This will allow it to spin freely in the rubber pad and not tear the surface. Typically the pad screws are phillips head and the through bolt is a straight. Is your 870 an Espress or a Wingmaster? LETMGROW
Re: Synthetic Stocks I have a Wingmaster which I change out before hunting season and change back just after the season when it goes back into the cabinet. Won't take a chance of scratching the original wood. I am going to clean it anyway and it only takes a few more minutes.
too_pointer
Re: Synthetic Stocks I have 2 stocks for alot of my guns and yes, they are most of the times lighter. I enjoy natural wood, but appreciate the camo and laminated patterns also. It doesn't take more than a few minutes to change the stocks out, and the recoil pad can take much longer. I try to have a recoil pad on each stock if possible. too_
