ParrotHead
I posted this on the Political Forums, but thought it would be appropriate to post it here since it covers both forums. We’ve all seen them, the Navy racecar, the U.S. Army racecar, National Guard, Marines etc. Do you feel that it’s appropriate for the government to sponsor/fund a racecar as a means of advertisement especially in the wake of the Pentagon denouncing their support of the Boy Scouts of America? For those that don’t know, the ACLU has won a law suit that forced the Pentagon from funding the BSA for the sole reason that they use the term “God” in their pledges. Now for anyone that’s ever been to a race, we all know that there is a prayer to God before anything gets started. Is it only time before the ACLU suies to either stop that prayer or go after those companies (and the government) to stop funding avenues such as NASCAR and NHRA. As for myself, I feel that the ACLU does one thing right every quarter of a century, this isn’t one of those times. I don’t have any issues with the government funding various organizations. The thought that our government isn’t going to fund an organization that’s sole purpose is to educate young boys and help them as they transition into young men is troubling to me. Seems that you would get more bang for the buck over the long run as opposed to funding something that caters to a hundred thousand drunks on Sunday afternoon. Thoughts or comments? MUDRUNNER
Re: Should the government use sports as advertisement? NASCAR IS MORE THAN A HUNDRED THOUSAND DRUNKS.THE TEAMS, DRIVERS, AND FANS DO A LOT OF CHARITY STUFF AND DONATE A TON OF TIME AND MONEY TO WORTHY CAUSES.I DO THINK THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD SUPPORT ANY ORGANIZATION THAT CONTRIBUTES TO GOOD VALUES,INCLUDING THE BOYSCOUTS.I DON'T ALWAYS AGREE WITH WHAT NASCAR DOES,BUT IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT THAT A BUNCH OF QUACKS DON'T LIKE THE WORD GOD IN THEIR PLEDGES. ParrotHead
Re: Should the government use sports as advertisement? [ QUOTE ] NASCAR IS MORE THAN A HUNDRED THOUSAND DRUNKS [/ QUOTE ] They're not advertising to drivers, teams or charity. When you put a logo on a racecar, you are advertising to the public and those in the stands - of which the majority is drinking!
MUDRUNNER
Re: Should the government use sports as advertisement? I DON'T SEE WHAT THROWING BACK A FEW COLD ONES HAS TO DO WITH ANYTHING.I DO THINK MORE PEOPLE WOULD ASSOCIATE THE ARMY AND NAVY WITH NASCAR THAN THE BOYSCOUTS.I ALSO THINK IT'S SHAMEFULL THAT THE GOVERNMENT CAN'T SPONSOR THINGS LIKE THE BSA.IT'S ALSO SHAMEFULL THAT THE ACLU CAN WIN A LAWSUIT OF THAT NATURE. Chrud
Re: Should the government use sports as advertisement? I don't see a problem with it. If they are willing to shell out the money to sponsor a racecar in the NASCAR series, I see no problem.
dg
Re: Should the government use sports as advertisement? I don't see a problem either. There's more than the fans in attendance getting the advertisement. Millions watch it eack week on tV, the driver and team do PR work thru the week. The haulers headed down the highway, etc, etc.
