Don’t forget your bug spray!

With the season about to start mosquitoes are one of those nagging problems we’ll have to deal with as turkey hunters. With that comes the risk of West Nile Virus. As low of a risk as it may seem it is a real problem to be concerned about. Sometimes that just doesn’t hit home until you know someone first hand that has had it.

A close friend of mine caught West Nile last September. This stuff is really bad. After spending 7 weeks on a ventilator, he was finally moved out of ICU. He was not released from the hospital until January and spent about a month in a rehab center. He’s at home now mainly confined to a wheel chair. He’s trying to build up his strength and learn how to walk again. He also has limited use of his right arm and hand. Progess is slow but he is getting better. If he makes a full recovery like others have that have come to see him, it will take at least a year to get completely back to normal. You can’t imagine the strain this puts on a family both mentally and financially.

Please don’t forget to include some bug spray as one of your must have items in your turkey vest.
