dogdoc
Re: Help me out here please I'd take 1 bag of shot plot over 10 bags of biologic's full draw. I know a lot of people that have had great success with full draw but I am not one of them. For some weird reason the deer won't touch the large leafed brassicas in the full draw on my place. best of luck todd
LETMGROW
Re: Help me out here please Our experience has been the deer prefered the Shot Plot. They started to tear into the Full Draw only after the Shot Plot was pretty well gone. [After mid December] .
Born2Hunt
Re: Help me out here please I would take Shot plot over Maximum any day! The deer would walk over the Biologic Maximum to get to our shot plot.

wtnhunt
Re: Help me out here please Of those choices, the shot plot for sure. The deer here will not touch the full draw and I am not fond of biologic. I will not buy any biologic seed ever again.

[/ QUOTE ] Ditto. Of the 3 things that came with Whitetail Institute's seed, brassicas, clover and rye grass, the deer mowed down the rye, hit the clover a little, and absolutely ignore the brassicas. Tominator
Re: Help me out here please [ QUOTE ] Sure that wasnt rye grain Chris? [/ QUOTE ] Nope, not sure at all William. They mowed it down before it could get to the point of a seed head.
wtnhunt
Re: Help me out here please Reason I ask there was a good discussion in here before where I discovered with some help from Todd and another member that deer love the rye grain. I always called it rye grass, but I was wrong and there is a difference. I am not so sure whether deer like rye grass or not. Claims in here were made that deer do not prefer the grass and will basically only eat rye grass if there is nothing else available.

[/ QUOTE ] Tom you're right on the money. You're talking about their No Plow blend right? If so, the deer here don't touch the big leaf brassica in no plow because I think its still really bitter after the first frost. Some brassica plants turn sweet after a first frost while others clearly DO NOT, I'm a living witness of it. I've planted different blends of brassica 3 years in a row with the same results. My deer only started eating it after the season was over in Jan, Feb & early March, the coldest months of the year in SC. In the no plow blend the brassica only gets sweet after a really really hard prolonged cold spell. I caution anyone that plans to actually hunt over brassica to ask around & chose wisely when planting it. I planted Tecomate's ultra forage brassica blend last year & the deer tore it up starting with the first frost in November. That's a much better product for where I live. I plan on planting a few strips of shot plot this year also.

To be honest, I probably ate more of that brassica than the deer did. That stuff was very good, and very sweet after a few frosts, but the deer didn't hardly touch it.
