Proud day for Papa (pics)

All winter long my 4 year old daughter Abigail has been bugging me to go ice fishing. Unfortunately for her our NY winter this year has been weird to say the least. Either we don't have any ice or it has been bitter cold. Well, this past Saturday the good Lord smiled on us and gave us some decent weather for the last weekend of pike fishing. Here are some pictures of my daughters first hard water fish.

All set and ready to go

it looks like that ice has a lot of holes in it....isn't that dangerous?

Good observation New! We did have heavy rains the day before we went fishing. When these warm spring rains land on the ice it will run into the holes that have been drilled by other fishermen previously. This will cause the holes to expand. This means a 10" hole could be a 24" hole the next day. You learn to walk around them. Where we were fishing there were four or five holes that were like that. These holes were pointed out to Abi and she was never allowed to wander by herself. If you look carefully you can see one of these holes just over my right shoulder in the 3rd picture. The ice was 11" thick and perfectly safe.

Come up and fish with us some time. I bet you Georgia boys don't get a chance to catch big pike on hard water very often grin.gif

Ahhh, rains...didn't think about that!

I would always freak at the idea of falling through the ice! I would keep a chain saw, axe, rope, and flotation device with me just in case!

That's a beautiful girl you got there.....treasure them as the do grow up fast. I have a 7 year old and wonder where the time has gone.

Congratulations Abigail!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go!!!

I love pike. We have chain pickeral that we call jack fish. They are just about the same. The state record here is around 4 pounds I think.

We have one on the wall that weighed around 8 pounds. ( Weren't aware we had a record, believe me)

Looks like ice fishing is fun. Thanks for sharing!! smile.gifsmile.gif
