wtnhunt
Yesterday afternoon, had my feed buckets with feed for the dog, cows, and the horse. A barrel I used to use for feed for another horse we no longer have is in the shed next to a stall. Some leaves had blown in around it and I just happened to look down. There was this guy coiled up ready to strike. This water moccasin was not quite three feet long(not a very big one), not as big as the one I killed in the backyard the other day. Makes about a dozen I have come across since Saturday and it is March? Someone asked about pics in another post the other day. Here you go. Here is a close up of the fangs. wtnhunt
Re: too close-pics [ QUOTE ] 3 feet is pretty big for a cottonmouth!! [/ QUOTE ] After 3 feet they usually start getting more stubby and fat. This one was not very fat yet. Have seen some around here nearly 5 feet long, when they get that big, they have huge heads and fat bodies. They do not hide as well when they are that size. SuperMn106
Re: too close-pics Wow that is a big snake to me. i would be scared to walk by a venomous snake. the biggest snake i have ever seen in person was a 4 ft black snake in missouri while i was visiting my brother. I was down in Tennessee back in october i think, it was for a dog trial. i think i was in dyersburg, thank god i didnt see any snakes. AdvantageTimberLou
Re: too close-pics a dead snake is the best snake I like to see. They scare the **** out me for some reason. I once belly crawled during turkey season to sneak up on a turkey, I got the bird but on the way back we came across a Hognose Snake that I was within 2 feet of crawling over. Man that would have ended my hunt, I would have screamed like a little girl!! Just don't like them!!!
Shaun_300
Re: too close-pics Yikes! Glad he didn't strike you. Just seeing pics of snakes like that makes me realize how lucky we are not to have any poisonous ones around here. Just little garter snakes here are about all you see. Some of them can get big, I've saw one about 4 or 5 feet long. Just not as fat as the ones you have down there.

[/ QUOTE ] You kind of get used to watching out for them around here, but it can still be startling when you get within their striking distance before seeing part of them sticking out from under leaves. Dyersburg is about 30 minutes from here, I am sure in October at least early on, snakes are still pretty active there too. [ QUOTE ] what did you get him with? looks like a machete (sp?) if so your brave to get that close lol [/ QUOTE ] Swing blade. Handle is about 4 foot long.
