[/ QUOTE ] I guess when some of YOU people start to realize that you cannot blame EVERYTHING that has gone wrong in your life on the man who has been elected to run the country. Making generalizations is quite simple now isnt it? I stand behind my thoughts previously posted in this thread. There are, and for quite some time have been some serious accountability issues with federal funding to states. Somewhere somehow, someone in the federal level needs to really dig and find out how and where some of these states are actually spending on versus where they are supposed to be spending and actually hold them accountable. A prime example is that education here in this state should be considerably better than it is considering how much is SUPPOSED to be going into it. I guess you didn't realize that rural schools get 25 percent of federal forest timber sale proceeds? No more timber sales, no more money. It's really quite simple. And I don't recall hearing anyone on the political Right arguing to reduce timber sales on federal property. I stand by my earlier statement. You can LYAO all you want, but that won't change the fact that I'm still correct. BTW - The last paragraph of your post was right on target. [/ QUOTE ] I see you know nothing about the teaching profession. Do you think the teachers that post on this site post while they are teaching, they probably post on their lunch break, which, I see nothing wrong with. But since you think teachers are so well paid and get wonderful benefits and get so much time off, let me give you a little info on my fiance. Her salary as a 3rd year teacher with a Bachelors degree is 2260.00 per month. She paid a total of 482.52 in taxes, another 135.60 for a retirement fund she'll never use, and another 280.25 in miscellaneous deductions, which left her a net pay of a grand total of 1361.63 She only works 8 months out of the year huh? Well, lets see, she starts in August and ends in June, so that means she works approximately 9 1/2 to 10 months of the year. I guess you think teachers go in at 8am and leave at 3am and don't worry about anything until the next day. WRONG!! She has to be there by 7am, she doesn't leave until after 4pm, then she has papers to grade and lessons to plan weeks and months in advance. She also has to do various training sessions during the week and routinely gives up an entire Saturday for training. During that 2 month break over the summer, well, she spent a total of almost a month last summer going to training sessions and conferences. All of her school supplies and expenses come out of her pocket, unless there happens to be someone who wants to donate to teachers and once a year they have a thing for teachers where they can come and pick out five items for free. Also, all of her medical benefits come out of her pay as well. So tell me oh knowledgeable one. What are these wonderful benefits you speak of that teachers get. I suggest if you are going to spout off on something you at least do some research to keep yourself from looking like a ****. As far as education starting at home, it would be wonderful if all parents took an active interest in their kids educations, but more often than not, they could care less and when their kid brings home F's, they go to the teachers and the school system looks at the teachers. I can't tell you how many times she has come home crying because of some ignorant parent.

What I find interesting, or shocking, is how many pro-war, support the president, support the troops conservatives will downgrade, downplay, and degrade decorated war veterans who disagree with the president based solely on their party affiliation. Max Cleland comes to mind, that man left 3 of 4 limbs in Vietnam, when it comes time for reelection, he is portrayed as a terrorist sympathizer and treated like a deserter rather than an honorable disabled veteran. How about John Murtha, another decorated war veteran, he has been villified because of his stance on the war all based on his party affiliation. I would bet money that if a decorated Republican war veteran opposed the war, he most definitely would not get the same treatment. It's disgusting when you think about it. Especially coming from those who claim they appreciate veterans and support the troops. I guess it all depends on party affiliation.

There are certainly extremes to both sides of this and sadly it probably even varies depending on how faithful a person is to their party. I personally do not claim to belong to any party, never have never will, I do however most often vote candidates that are republican as they most often better seem to support my views. I vote and support what I think is right. While I do not agree with certain things about this presidency, I do think he was without any doubt the better choice of the two choices we had at the time and I did and do still support some of what he has done. To claim what you would or would not do differently in his shoes with the circumstances as they have come about is easy to do when you are not the one in that position ultimately making those decisions. I guess knowing that you are going to be crucified for any decisions you make from one party or the other I am sure would ease anyones mind when taking into consideration making those already difficult decisions. I personally just dont see where bashing this nations leader even if you do not agree with his direction is accomplishing anything at all. Did she not do any research as to what she was getting into as her choice of careers? Maybe she should become a professor. [/ QUOTE ] Of course she did research, and teachers don't go into teaching because of the pay. She would like to make more, but her main concern for quitting teaching isn't the low pay, or the kids, or the parents. It's the garbage No Child Left Behind Act that grades kids across the board, ALL kids, even with learning disabilities and are expected to meet unattainable standards and spend more time preparing for teaching outside of the classroom than they do inside of it. Teaching isn't a 9 to 5 job, it's an all day, all weekend job. When a normal person gets out of work at 5pm, they go home and veg out in front of the TV and spout off about how bad it is in their cubicle and their boss doesn't understand them, a teacher goes home and continues working. And what makes you think professors make exorbitant amounts of money. Being a professor isn't all that in the income department. [ QUOTE ] Now subtract Thanksgiving break, winter break and spring break. And who else gets Jan 2, MLK day, Pres. day, good friday off in addition to all the normal federal holidays off? Not to mention teacher in service days that are really just half days. Do the math. Sounds to me like whining! [/ QUOTE ] Thanksgiving break= 2 days, how many people work on Thanksgiving anyway, about the only places open on Thanksgiving are gas stations and Chinese restaurants. Do you work on Thanksgiving. Winter Break, there are plenty of other jobs also that are off two days for Christman and off on New Years day, teachers aren't the only ones. MLK day, Presidents Day, Good Friday- Days off for the kids, work days for the teachers, and they aren't half days, she is there all day planning and grading [ QUOTE ] She has to be there by 7am, she doesn't leave until after 4pm, Sounds like a normal work day to me. [/ QUOTE ] Not when you come home and continue working. As stated earlier, most people leave their jobs at work, teachers bring them home. We do have something in common in our dislike of President Bush, although I am not as harsh of him as you are, I used to be, but not everything can be blamed on him. Did I just say that!! I work 12 months a year I get 2 weeks vacation time and make about $15 an hour after you figure in football games, contests, weekends, private lessons, booster meetings, summer band practice. Oh that's unless you figure in one of our great benifits like health and dental which cost $1100 a month together. Gee what a steal. That brings me to a whoppying $10.75 an hour. Don't get me wrong here, I like my job, I like teaching, and I'm pretty good at it if I do say so myself. By the way I make more that 70% of the tenured professors at the University of Arkansas.
