Do you eat bass?

I used to, when I was a little bambino, but only because my dad cleaned them. My biggest bass ever, which should have been mounted, was turned into fillets. Not many people eat bass. They taste good, but for some reason not many eat them! As a kid, I always thought Jimmy Houston and "the boys" were idiots for letting those huge bass go!! Those could make a couple nice meals!!!

Now, I'd just as soon release them. If I caught another really nice one, I might have it mounted.

I believe the bass population should be kept in "check" because if no one were allowed to eat them, then bass would take over. It's the same with deer. Plain and simple. wink.gifcool.gif

Re: Do you eat bass?

Let us please be careful of judging any of our fellow gamers!! mad.gif We hunt to eat or donate the meat. Fishing was and has always been a way to provide meals. Bass have survived for many years prior to our catch and release phase we are now in.

I'm not even sure it is great for the fish population or that all the fish released live. How good would it be for deer if we started tranquilizing them and taking a picture or cutting off the horns and then letting them grow till next year??

Sorry....off soapbox now grin.gif

Let's just be careful cuz that could be the next craze if that fishing attitude carries over to our hunting.

Fish, Hunt, EAT and LOVE IT!!!

Do the bass in your state have size limits on them???? Seems like the FWC would be keeping an eye on that kinda thing. confused.gif

Re: Do you eat bass?

We always eat the bass we catch. The small ponds and lakes we fish have nobody but our family fishing them and we usually only get to each one no more than twice per year. No way are we hurting the population. Sometimes I think all this catch and release is bad for the fish.

My dad caught and released a bass one time that was about 13 pounds. Later come to find out it would have beat the Missouri state record (for private lake or pond) by more than a pound.

Re: Do you eat bass?

Dont fish for bass to often but I ocassionally catch one on a fathead or a mister twister while fishing for crappies and perch. Then I keep them and eat them. One time I kept one and I was on my stringer and some old dude started to get mad at me because I was keeping it and said they dont taste good anyways and I should let it go so It can grow big and someone else could catch it. I had been throwing back all of the really small ones and kept the 3lber. It had been on my stringer for well over an hour and throwing it back probably would of killed it. Bass is delicious
