VtBowhunter
We know about the players they've already signed, but they just signed Willie Mcginest (sp?) from the Pats. They're really trying to buy a chance to win, lol.

VtBowhunter
Re: Browns buying players up. Your Redskins are overpaying players. I loved watching Randle El return punts, but he tries to do too much and it usually ends in a fumble........good luck with that, lol. PAbowhunter4life
Re: Browns buying players up. OVERPAYING is an understatement lol. Randle El was a good punt returner, but as VT pointed out, he didn't know what he was going to do next which resulted in A LOT of fumbles. I'm a diehard Steelers fan and I'll be 100% honest, I truly don't care that he's gone lol. Here is my question about the Redskins. They went out and WASTED $41 mil (including bonus) on Randle El, they then traded a draft pick to bring in Brandon Lloyd. They HAVE to start Lloyd and Moss over El since they are FAR BETTER receivers then El is, heck, he is NOWHERE near their caliber. So did the Redskins just buy a $41 million punt returner? Or do they think his "gadget play" ability will lead them to the Bowl??? Personally, I think the Redskins SHOULD be contenders if you look at their roster, but something tells me that this is all going to backfire in their face somehow. As for the Browns, they were like $25 million under the cap before the CBA allotted them an extra $7.5 million for cap, they have the money to spend. buckbuster11
Re: Browns buying players up. Alright muggsy and tommynator this one is for you guys.......... I am very surprised and impressed with what the Browns are doing, and they might still add somebody like a Lavar Arrington as well plus they have the 12th pick in the draft. It would not shock me if they were the main competition in the division for the Steelers next year, especially since the only thing the Bengals have done so far is let Kitna go. muggs
Re: Browns buying players up. Sometimes I really have trouble understanding people. First of all, VT, since when is "buying a chance to win" a bad idea...it's that what free agency is all about? And when is trying to win weird...anyway, I'll leave it at that. Chris, we have some young LB, and we're probably going to add more LB's and DT's in the draft. When we do, we now have two guys that have played in Crennel's system for the better part of their careers. They'll be able to mentor the young guys and show them the ropes...and they'll still be able to contribute in the near future. As for "has beens", Ted Washington will most likely be here for a year. In that time he'll shore up the middle of the line, mentor a young DT we draft (Orien Harris most likely) and then retire. McGinest is hardly a has been. His best days are behind him, but he'll be good for now. John, I'm glad someone on here knows a thing or two about sports. I'm not surprised you're impressed, Phil Savage is sharp, and has shown he was worthy of all the hype. He'll turn this boat around for sure. This is just the beginning. And Chris, stop letting former poor management keep swaying your opinion. A franchise was hijacked, the NFL got two new stadiums built, and gave the Al Lerner 200 days to sign a front office staff, a coaching staff, and prepare them for the draft. In comparison, other expansion teams like the Jaguars and Panthers were given 1,200 days to do all that...and obviously, it has translated into sucess. get a clue guys. muggs
Re: Browns buying players up. true, but the Brown's haven't given anybody Randle El type money...especially not to anyone who is going to contribute as much as a 3nd receiver (I know he returns punts too, but come on). RDNKHNTR77
Re: Browns buying players up. i gotta concur with u eric, phil savage is a heck of a GM, first one weve had around here in a while. he knows what he is doing and will hopefully turn the franchise around. and we got Danny Ferry with the cavs, now all we need is someone who knows what they r doing in the Indians organization. [/ QUOTE ] glad to see there's another knowledgable sports guy in here. Paul, we have Mark Shapiro running the show with the Tribe and doing a heck of a job there too. It's the cheap arsh owner, Larry Dolan that's the problem. He doesn't have the cash to bankroll a MLB team and he needs to sell. But Shapiro is working wonders with a shoestring budget. He's got CC, Grady, Hafner, Peralta, Marte, and VMart all locked into long-term deals...and Cliff Lee is soon to follow. btw- Shapiro won GM of the year last year and was runner-up the year before. IMO, he's even better than Savage...and that's saying something.
