HarvDog
Has anyone ever flown with a shotgun, rifle, or handgun? How did you transport it? Obviously, you would have to check it but I'm sure there are other rules you have to follow.
wtnhunt
Re: Flying with guns Sure someone here will get you an answer. I have not harv, but have read about others in here before dealing with checking them.
Tim Andrus
Re: Flying with guns Harvdog, Very easy to do . Just take your hard case( buy a good one) to the checkin counter . They'l see you have a weapon to declare. You must open the case and sign a paper saying the weapon is unloaded and they'll ask you where your ammo is and that you have to have it in a seperate piece of luggage. Now I have been thru this a bunch of times . Very easy. If you have any more questions let me know Tim This was for rifle, shotgun ,bow . Ive never brought a handgun thru. Newarcher
Re: Flying with guns Buy the metal case.......the black plastic "airline approved" cases aren't worth ANYTHING. Make sure you get the serial number and keep it with you in case the airline employees decide they like it. Also, insure it. New
Guest Finn
Re: Flying with guns Good advice above. The only thing I'd add would be to check with the airline company to make sure you know their policy. I've flown since 9-11, and it was no hassle. This old lady behind me was making small talk, then asked about my "guitar". When I told her it was a deer rifle, she quit talking to me. HarvDog
Re: Flying with guns I have a Pelican case that claims to be unbreakable, watertight, dustproof, chemical resistant and corrosion proof. Would that be sufficient for a handgun or do I really need to go with a metal case?

doughboy1956
Re: Flying with guns Watched a hunting show last week. One of the prostaff had bullets in his jacket from his last hunt. They gave him a hard time. Said he won,t forget to go through all his pockets before the next trip.
stevebeilgard
Re: Flying with guns tim has it right. declare your gun. breech must be open, bolt removed if it's a bolt action. shells must be in another bag. rifle case must be declared. a little work, but no real problem. i'd use the best aluminum case i could find. billkay
Re: Flying with guns Pelican cases are prety good stuff. I've never put a gun in one on an airplane, but I've used them a lot for camera gear. They are sturdy and water tight. Some also have a valve for pressure relief, I think.
