huntinsonovagun
I would suggest using some bluestem grass. That would look great! Maybe before you do that, cover the base with epoxy and sprinkle some dirt and stuff on it to make it look like the ground, then once it's dry, drill some tiny hole for the base of your bluestem grass to fit in. buckee
Re: pheasant mount A big chunk of styrofoam, carved out to recieve the post, and painted up to look like ground. You can make rocks with it too (nice, light-weight ones)

Guest Michelles_Taxidermy
Re: pheasant mount Well What I use is peat moss. I believe that is what it is called it comes in a bag you use it for filler in gardens. I use elmers glue and smear a little in the bottom of the base. Than i mix the peat moss and more elmers glue in a separate container and make a past like substance. You realy don't need a lot of glue to make the past. I smear it in the bottom of the base and shape it and smooth it the way you want it. It is usually about 1" thick. If you want it thicker than that i would suggest nly doing it 1" at a time til it dries and add somemore. Than I take some of the dry peat moss and sprinkle it on the top and let it set for a week or so to dry. It probably wont take that long but it never hurts to let it set. Mach1
Re: pheasant mount I was interested in how to use dirt in mounts. What about grasses and other plant material? Is it preserved in any way to keep it from decomposing and also to keep it standing upright?
KirkV
Re: pheasant mount Here is the chewed up head I was speaking of. It is a small 8 pt but yours if you will use him, just show us the final product! Looks like he spent a year or so being chewed on before I found him.
