IowaDeerHunter
I have a that skull that I found and my dad thought it would be neat to mount it to another deer cape. And also last night a 12 point was hit 1/2 mile from our house here, and the guy said we could have it but the lower jaw is really rough, and broken. Anyone know where I can buy capes(bucks, 2 1/2-3 1/2) Thanks
huntinsonovagun
Re: Buying capes? You don't actually put the whole skull in the mount....just the skull plate. Busted up jaw shouldn't matter, unless the cape is really tore up.

Just messed up, I have looked on ebay with not so great results but will try again. Thanks guys
preacherman
Re: Buying capes? I think someone said the other day that a cape goes for around $25 at the Taxidermy shop. Ask your local taxidermist, he should have a couple extra capes for sale.
artisticwhitetails
Re: Buying capes? "I think someone said the other day that a cape goes for around $25 at the Taxidermy shop." You may be able to get a green doe cape for $25. Cape price depends on size and quality. Ive seen huge capes sell for upwards of $300. IowaDeerHunter, a local deer processer or taxidermist would be a good place to start if you want a cape that came from your area. Just expect to pay $80 and up for a good sized quality cape. If you dont mind mounting those nice Iowa antlers on a short haired Southern cape, I could hook you up. If I dont have the size you want I can usually get it in a few weeks. AW. IowaDeerHunter
Re: Buying capes? A nice buck cape tanned-100-125 dollars! At first that sounds like a lot but then you think about the work and supplies and it is right. may just buy one and tan it myself, altough i have never done it. that's why I want one tanned. Did a google search and that worked great. I am not sure yet. I have two deer to mount an di need to capes. One person says he will buy a mount and i will keep the other.
