Re: 45?

The ol' mainstay colt loaded with premium hunting rounds (like a 250GR Nosler) is good for about 75-90 yards. Far furthur than what you would be capable of with standard iron sights as a new shooter with this type of weapon. Nevertheless, good choice and happy hunting! The ruger pistol is a good one!

Re: 45?

I've used a Ruger SS Blackhawk for years. I shoot a 300 gr cast bullet that I cast from a custom "mountain mould".

The Ruger is a good strong gun, I generally shoot about 1500 to 2500 rounds of heavy loads a year in this pistol.

I've taken quite a few game animals at 100 yards with no problem.

Re: 45?

the gun i'm goignt o buy has another purpose, i need a 45 becuase of competitive mounted shooting of from horse back, so it needs to have a mid sized barrel and no scope
