Re: AR 15 questions

They are a lot of fun and can be extremely accurate. The accuracy all depends on the upper you choose to go with. The lower unit only carries the magazines, holds the trigger, and is the human interface to the gun. The upper contains the bolt, barrel, and sighting system.

Here are a few places that build good rifles:

Armalite

Bushmaster

Rock River

DPMS

Les Baer

JP Enterprises

For a guranteed sub MOA gun you are looking at $1000-$1500 depending on what the configuration is. You can get AR15 clones or the AR10 clones. The AR15 shoots the .223 Rem family of cartridges and the AR10 shoots .308 Winchester family of cartridges.

For best accuracy a flat top will be the best choice as it will allow you to mount a scope without being overly top heavy. These guns can be extremely accurate as my AR15 with a machined upper by JP Enterprises is the second best shooting gun I own. The first is my benchrest target gun. Mine will shoot 5 shot groups into 1/4"-3/8" ragged holes when I pay attention to shooting form.

These guns come with a single stage or a two stage trigger. On a single stage trigger of say 3 pounds, once your finger pressure exceeds 3 pounds, the sear will release. On a two stage trigger, the trigger will move to what feels like a wall at say 3 pounds. When one more pound of pressure is exerted, it will release the sear. This style is popular with high power service rifle shooters. Personally, I like single stage triggers.

A great site for info on the black gun is AR15.com

Re: AR 15 questions

I just ordered a AR15 from Rock River. It is going to cost me around $1100 with an upgraded handguard and a different muzzle break. All of the Rock River Arms come standard with a Stage Two trigger. I bought it through a local guy here in VA. Let me know if you want his contact information.
