borch
Probably the best thing you can do now is to try to pattern them. Set up on their daily route and do minimal soft calling. Which way do they fly off the roost if you don't call to them? Note where they go and set up there. As the season wears on the hens will start going to nest. Then your best option is to hunt mid-moring into the afternoon(if legal). The toms will still be looking for love but many of their hens will be sitting on their nest. They'll be much more responsive to your calling. Good Luck!
Strut10
Re: How early Hunt late, like borch said. Sometimes the best strategy is to get up about 7:00 A.M., get a good hot shower, go somewhere and get a good breakfast and hit the woods refreshed, well-rested & well-fed about 9:30. Stay in the woods 'til the law sez you gotta quit or until you kill one..........whichever comes first.
wishinone
Re: How early Using high pitched calls, RTF and I get the hens ticked off enough to lead the gobblers to us. Some of these hens come in really looking for a fight, its amazing.
too_pointer
Re: How early I like to get out there really early, most gobblers will gobble back to you even if they have hens with them. The guys are right, I have shot most of mine after the hens were serviced and left the tom. Also if you have a hen calling back to you, do the same calls back to her the best you can, it seems to irritate them, and sometimes they will come to your calling, bringing their friends with them. too_pointer
