Just shoot me now!

I decided to get a propane tank to run our gas logs this winter, and wanted to do everything by the book for a couple of reasons: (1) resell value and (2) insurance reasons. I figured shoot I can hook up the propane tank and save us the $ of delivery and hook up fees. My first gripe is the cost of a permit for this - $93! Second gripe is that the county does not provide any documentation on this such as recent codes like now I have to label a 3' copper line that runs from the house to propane tank sitting right there and label it a "gas line" in two places. You would think that if you saw only one copper line running into a gas tank and the other end is connected to the house a gas line. Also where the cutoff valve is inside the house, we have a red wire that runs from a wall switch to the logs and it is not hooked up. We figured once our youngest child figured out that he could flip a switch and have fire that he would be over there all day flipping the switch. The inspector said that I had to hook up the wire and I told him that I did not "have to" hook it up and I explained my case. He then told me - "fine but you have to put a rubber bushing around the wire when it comes through the fireplace" Again, I ask why because it is not hooked up, there is no voltage on the line, and how did I get an Occupancy Permit to move into the house if it wasn't on to begin with. He said - "Safety and the other inspector must have over looked it"

I keep telling myself that this is for insurance and saftey reasons. If anything should ever happen as least the county will have it listed as passed. Unless they keep finding things wrong. If I fail one more time, I have to start paying them to come inspect it.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Unfortunately, they have to protect idiots from themselves and find some excuse to bring in revenue. frown.gif

Think it is mostly about the latter part of that statement. Some places have some pretty way in which they handle inspections and such. We had to have a septic tank and field lines in before they would hook up our electric confused.gifcrazy.gif.
