Hoyt03
Well I just got done patterning my 870 and man does my shoulder hurt. Is there anything you can add to your shotgun to make the recoil a little more tolerable. Do the simms pads work at all, how much do they cost? Any other suggestions are appreciated. Man does my arm hurt right now
oo_buck
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? They work pretty good...... Also, you could add weight to the stock, but that will make it heavier to carry around too.
Bruce Schmeck
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? Suck it up man! You're from Pennsylvania. You don't want everyone here thinking we're a bunch of wussies do ya?
BowtechTurkeyHunter
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? SVL recoil pads do work theyh will run about 30 bucks for the 870 and they are super easy to put on ... one thing though the hard parts done patterning isnt an everyday occurance and when that gobbler is in front of you I promise you wont feal a thing except excitment ... but I would definately recomend a recoil pad. Strut10
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? I use a "sissy pad" of folded up carpet padding when I'm doing a long patterning session. Call me a Pennsylvania wussie" if you like. 8 lb. 10 gauges and 3 1/2" 12 gauges kick like ******** (fill in your own expletive)!!!!!!!!! I'll be a "wussie" without a black & blue shoulder, thank you.
Rhino
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? Call it what you want but I get some extra padding for sighting in from using an old down vest I have to save my shoulder for turkey hunting. Does the job. You can call it being a wuss or whatever you want but it beats using bengay later. I'll suck it up fine when I'm hunting. Besides, I don't ever seem to notice it in the heat of battle. borch
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? Bring your friends alone and have them shoot it! The Strut10 Pad, aka "Wussie Pad", works if you can't talk your buddies into it.

Covehnter
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? I put an R3 recoil pad on my 870 this year, makes a LOT of difference! I could tell the difference after the first shot!

[ QUOTE ] i shoot mine 12 or 13 times and it dose not hurt my shoulders but i gess you guys are wusses [/ QUOTE ] 12 or 13 times??? Many springs, I'll throw away a 5 gallon bucket of empties!! I'd almost wager, too, that if you ran 12 or 13 rounds through my BPS 10 ga. off the bench (with or without a sissy pad!!) you would think you'd had a pretty long day of it. jbeck
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? Switch to checking densities with 7 shot low brass at 30 yards, switch to the round you want to use, shot once, maybe twice at 40 yards. I'm hoping I'll get that bird closer than that. Leo
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? A simms pad + a mercury recoil reducer in the magazine replacing the plug works great Plus if you add one of those butt stock ammo carriers and keep it full of turkey loads that helps too. Sure my gun's heavy but I can shoot a box of 10 3 1/2" turkey loads wearing only a T-shirt.
Hoyt03
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? Thanks for the replys everyone. Which recoil pad works best for the 870? The one you screw in or the one that fits over the stock? Jbeck, I hope so
johnf
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? As popular as the 870 is, I would bet simms makes one to fit, but the slip on is easier to install. They would work the same I imagine.
Guest cowpoke
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? I put a limbsaver on mine and it really takes the whollop out of recoil. I shot 35 slugs and 20 turkey loads one day at the range to use up stuff that didn't pattern well for the heck of it, and it didn't even bother me thanks to the limbsaver pad. ranchand99
Re: Anything to dampen the pain?? I use a Pachmayer decelerator on my 870 super mag,and it made a huge difference. An R3 would be my 2nd choice.
