ousoonerfan22
Re: persimmon seeds? How long did it take them to sprout? The property I hunt has some short gnarly persimmon tree's that seem to produce fruit every year so after filling the feeder today I picked some of the persimmons that were left.I pulled the seeds and planted them in a small container filled with miracle grow tree and shrub soil. I done the same with the white oak and sawtooth acorns now some of them are sprouting out of the soil.
Tominator
Re: persimmon seeds? I would assume persimmon, like other fruit trees, need a dormant cold spell (stratificaton) in order for them to germinate. That is, if the seed is viable. Here's a good site: http://www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/persimmon.html
bfletch7441
Re: persimmon seeds? It doesn't seem right to say it, but I've never needed to do that because I have too many persimmon trees on our place already. Good luck growing them though, they're a heckuva producer once they get going. Ben
dogdoc
Re: persimmon seeds? soonerfan---first you need to clean the seeds really well. Get all the slimy fruit off the seeds. Then place them in the refrigerator (in a baggy with a moist paper towel). Leave them in the fridge for 1 month. After that get them out and scarrify (sp?) or make a little nick with a knife of the pointy end of the seed. Then plant them in a 1/2 peet moss/potting soil. It will take 2 to 4 weeks for them to germinate. A month after germination you need to transplant them into larger pots. good luck todd
