Newarcher
Re: Are you freaking kidding me? I can say this about the whole union thing....my wife's uncle retired from GM and now, unfortunately, is incapacitated with strokes. He retired with benefits that make my current benefits look pitiful. However, he worked back in the old days before machines did much of the lifting. He used to install bumpers on cars by sitting them on his knees while he bolted them on.....it was the way they did it. Before the stroke, the poor guy could hardly walk because of damage done to them. Not all union workers aren't bad people but I think the UNION is a bad entity for America. Nuff said, I am in Duke mourning. New
wtnhunt
Re: Are you freaking kidding me? Surprised no one in here has blamed Bush for this yet. Guess if this were in the political forum maybe. Really am a bit surprised more people dont see at least part of where new is coming from here. Sure unions can bring some good, but also bring a lot of greed. Greed that ultimately can shut down companies or parts of companies as has likely happened here. Unions have way too much control in some work places. When I worked for UPS, we had people that they could not get rid of because they were union members, despite substandard performance. Unions strike and or threaten employers to gain what they want for the employees, sometimes that is good, sometimes it is not. Unions in my opinion in many places are given way too much power. I personally do not see where a non skilled, non educated job, that has virtually no life risks should ever pay $75 an hour at this point in time. JMHO. A shame those jobs are being lost, no doubt, but those people are being compensated more than fairly in my opinion from what I have read. Dont know of anywhere that gives a years worth of seperation pay.
Newarcher
Re: Are you freaking kidding me? Unions are great for the employee....they provide great job security (which isn't always a bad thing especially if you have a manager turn over and they want a friend to take your job). They get you what is generally a much higher than market pay rate. So I don't blame union guys for loving them. But in something as important to the general economy, 401-K's and people's basic needs, the unions have proven themselves to be counter productive. I am surprised that someone hasn't tried to unionize the machines and act as a representative for them yet. I do love the montre of the union guys that if you don't support them in their plundering and pillaging that you don't support America or the American worker. As if the only true Americans are union and blue collar. To each their own. New

Orion_70
Re: Are you freaking kidding me? I agree with you New.. Unions need to go.. Monstrous evils in the workplace now. I like the walmart way, you form a union, we fire you all, you're not going to dictate wages/benefits although both need to be fair. Gettin paid 75 an hour for pushing a broom or operating a machine anyone can do is well, exorbent and undeserved. That's a 10 an hr. job....It's less than that overseas. Supply/demand, go where the labor is cheapest to produce the same product.
