Mossberg 835 not ejecting spent shell

My Mossberg 835 has a problem of not ejecting some spent shells (3 1/2"). I called Mossberg and they told me to send them the gun. After about a month they sent it back and said nothing was wrong with the gun and it was probably the shells I was using! Shouldn't this gun be capable of shooting and ejecting all brands of shells? I know that 2 of my friends have 835's and they have no problems at all!

Re: Mossberg 835 not ejecting spent shell

I along with a couple others experienced the same thing with our 835s using the big 3.5" Nitro shells. Seemed like they were so hot that the "brass" would swell enough that they would initially stick. I would have to hard rack the pump a few times to get it out!!! Had one friend who had to poke the spent casing out with a ramrod through the muzzle!! shocked.gif

Do you have a problem with extraction or ejection? If you try to eject the hull in a slow motion, it will occasionally hang up. If you work the slide smartly like you would hunting, it works just fine.

Re: Mossberg 835 not ejecting spent shell

I shot a MB500 for 5 years and the gun perfomed flawlessly--not one problem ever. I have an 835 only shot a few turkey rounds with it--never a problem. I purchased a 935 last year and duck hunted with it this season---duck season was a little slow but probably shot 3 boxes thru it without any problems.

Sorry about the problems--sounds like I got lucky.

Re: Mossberg 835 not ejecting spent shell

I have an 835 combo that works just fantastic. I have shot a half dozen other 835 guns and many model 500 guns in 12, 20, and 410 and have yet to have a mechanical problem. Their fit and finish is far from great, but mechanically they work just fine.

Now it's my 935 with a problem. Just got it last week too!!! Was at the range patterning some turkey shells and chokes and about every other round fired the action would not stay in the open position? Some times I would shoot 2 or 3 rounds(loading and firing one at a time) and it would not stay open!!! Called Moss and raised cane ...said to send it back...should send it back in pieces!!!! mad.gifmad.gif

Wow, I was going to look at buying the 835 combo but I may hold off now until some folks here get some answers.

That's too bad...

I have had three Mossberg shotguns in my lifetime so far. Never had any problems except one time. My father seen me not rack the slide back hard enough to eject the spent shell! He told me, "dont baby it!" Since then even on my 835 I have now, I dont baby it! Works fine! Even fired three 3.5" shells as fast as I could! All were thrown 5-8 feet away! You have to work it!!!

I own a 535 and an 835 and will be buying a 935 soon. I have not had one problem with either of my guns. They are rock solid performers.

Re: Mossberg 835 not ejecting spent shell

turkeystalker, have you run many 3 1/2" shells through your 835 ? I have the 935, and want to buy some 3 1/2" soon for it, but don't know which kind to get yet. I will probably get the hevishot if they make them in that size. I also want to look at Federal's newer loads. cool.gif I have an extra-full, full, and modified chokes for it. The big shells would be for turkey and geese.

thanks
