Re: trapping

Check out the magazine Fur-Fish-Game. They usually have a complete rundown of fur prices in the back. Your big challenge may be to find a local buyer. Around here they used to be everywhere. Now we have to get hooked up with some regional trapping organization and peddle the furs at their auctions.

I haven't done any trapping in about 30 years, but I used to be addicted to it. As effective as the animal rights people have been at vilifying trapping, and ruining the market, it's a wonder there's anyone still doing it. But as far as I'm concerned, it is still an honorable profession and one that requires the greatest amount of woodlore knowledge and intimate understanding of nature of all the outdoor sports combined. My hat's off to anyone who still is active in trapping.

Re: trapping

well, here in Ohio, the fur traders are paying $3.50+ a muskrat just to trade them in and they'll skin them. The prices are said to keep rising, but my fur trader wouldn't even exept coon much this year because of their poor quality of fur

Re: trapping

Personally I think trapping is (ok start to flame I dont care) A lazy cruel method of hunting. Get out there and hunt, Dont let it suffer in some trap.

The anti's sure have made an impression on you haven't they. You even got the terminology down pat....lol.

Well, cheer up. I think that your people are winning on this issue and will have trapping effectively outlawed in the near future. Then they will be able to spend all of their time working on hunting and fishing.

You've been indoctrinated quite well. Ever trap, yourself?? Or are you just reciting the anti's talking points?? I generally put no credibility in anyone's opinion unless it comes from experience.

Re: trapping

Aren't emotions wonderful? The beauty is that emotions don't really require facts. Actually, I have heard the same words spoken about bowhunting. In fact those sentiments have been used relative to all hunting. In fact, I have read articles that use the "cruel" argument about fishing. Now we are even hearing it within our own ranks. Don't tell me that the animal rights people aren't being effective with their emotional arguments against outdoor activities. As you can see, they are able to pull at the heart-strings of many people and even have been successful at turning hunters against trappers. There are always some easily influenced and manipulated people who will fall for their line every time.

it`s safe to assume you never set a trap in your life, F.Y.I., most of the fox and coon i ever trapped, were sound a sleep, when i walked up on them, so it`s safe to say they weren`t in any pain, as far as trappers being lazy, try walking with 70 lbs. of traps, and gear on your back all day, then call us lazy...
