silentgate
I'm wanting to buy a camcorder to video wildlife and maybe some hunts. I know very little about what's out there. If you guys were going to buy a new camcorder would it be the Digital, DVD or the hard drive type? How does the hard drive type playback? M00N
Re: Which Camcorder? What price range are you looking for a camcorder in or what is your highest price you'd pay for one? If you're going with up in the $1,500-$2,500 range like the Cannon GL2 style I'd also look at the Panasonic AG-DVC30. I got to test both of those camcorders and loved the Panasonic much more than the Cannon. Both were good camcorders though.

smallmunster
Re: Which Camcorder? If you want to edit the video on the PC then I would stick with miniDV. The DVD and hard drive cams don't save the footage as raw video files (.avi) which are the best for editing. The dvd cams should output either to a VCR for putting the footage on a tape or to the computer. I like Sony cams myself but honestly I have not looked too close at the newer models lately. For $800 you should be able to find a nicer 3 chip minidv cam.
M00N
Re: Which Camcorder? Panasonic PV-GS150, Canon Elura 90, & Sony DCR-HC90 come to mind and should be in your price range. I'd go somewhere and play around with a bunch of camcorders in your price range though before buying one. I honestly, out of the three I listed, like the Canon Eulura 90 best. I like its 20x optical zoom and has low-light, spotlight, and night modes.
wtnhunt
Re: Which Camcorder? Kind of looking for something similar to what you are. Was looking at the mini DVD handycams from sony, but think we are going to with the mini dv instead.
