Strut10
Has anyone read or heard anything about how an influx of the bird flu (which they say will come) might affect our flocks of wild turkeys?? I know that the disease will kill domestic turkeys.
snapper
Re: Bird flu & our turkey flocks???????? No worry here Strut...the PGC and NWTF is seeking to wipe out our turkey population like the deer herd...lol Seriously, I thought about that....but guess I really wasn't too concerned about it. Guess we will have to wait and see since there isn't much you and I can do about it.

LifeNRA
Re: Bird flu & our turkey flocks???????? Yeah I have been thinking about this as well! But there is nothing we will be able to do about it!
Rhino
Re: Bird flu & our turkey flocks???????? To be honest Strut, I have not thought about that either. I'll send an email to the biologist in charge of our state's turkey department and see what he has to say.
Rhino
Re: Bird flu & our turkey flocks???????? OK Strut here's what James Austin (MS DWFP turkey biologist) says about bird flu. "There are a lot of unanswered questions regarding avian influenza. I have read some information that indicates several species of wild birds carry the virus in there intestines but do not get sick from it. I also have read that the virus is more evident in water birds than other species. However, the Centers for Disease Control report that the virus can make domestic turkeys very sick and potentially kill them. The Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study is going to conduct a research project that will determine the effects of the virus on wild bird populations. Maybe this research will provide a better understanding of the disease. For further information regarding avian influenza go to the following website: http://www.cdc.gov/flu/avian/gen-info/facts.htm James Austin" Sounds like they really don't know the details yet.
