Tominator
My good buddy Ohiobucks went and bought himself a new Trykon (even when he had the chance to buy a Mathews, sheesh), anyway, I must have had a big ol' Mathews grin on my face when I walked into his Mathews-less pro shop. I picked up one of the Trykons, drew it back, looked at it and said, "Hmmm, looks just like a Mathews." Buddy, that opened the floodgates. 3 guys, Ohiobucks included, jumped on me like ham and cheese on rye. So we gave it back and forth a bit. I think I had the one guy going, he started spitting out arrow speeds, yadda yadda yadda, I kept saying, "yep, except for that 'Klingon sword' looking riser, those parallel limbs look just like a Mathews." I was just teasing all the time, but I don't know that he knew it. Anyway, Chris (the guy setting up Tom's new bow) offered to let me shoot one. To be honest, I wanted to. I've shot Tom's Razortec, and it was a nice bow, so I figured the Trykon would be just as nice if not better. They didn't have a relax grip release so I had to shoot a Scott. Needless to say the release surprised me when it went off. The bow fit me perfectly though. The peep lined up and everything. All my shots where about 5" high, and I was all over the place, but I'm pretty sure that was because of the trigger release. My thoughts on the Trykon, if you care, the bow has a very smooth draw cycle and is a very balanced bow. When you shoot, you hardly know the arrow has left the bow, no shock at all. It's very quiet too. It's different than the Mathews, and I don't know if I can put my finger on exactly what, but it just felt different than my Legacy. It's a nice bow for sure. Not worth trading in my Mathews just yet, but a very nice bow IMHO.
Illinoisbowhunter
Re: Shot The Trykon Glad your buddy likes the new trykon. My first impression of it was not the best, I thought it had the roughest draw cycle more then any other bow I tried, even worse then my old Browning. There seems to be a big lump and it dumps off at the end. As the proshop owner said here, its either you absolutely hate it or love it. [/ QUOTE ] That is exactly what I felt on the draw cycle. I also don't like the inability to change draw lengths. Chris, you knew you'd start a war with that "Looks like a Mathews line", didn't you? Those are some serious words to a Hoyt dealer, lol!

Chrud
Re: Shot The Trykon Chris...you should have pulled out the specs on the '05 Switchback and compared them to the '06 Trykon. Now, go try an XT and tell us what you think of it.

Maybe this was a bad post. The bow I shot had little stoppers near the cam that dampened that very solid wall natural to the Trykon. It was fun to shoot, and Matt, I'm not going to shoot a Switchback for obvious reasons.

Ohiobucks
Re: Shot The Trykon Admit it, that Hoyt had you grinning from ear to ear! I shot one, no post about it. Ordered one, no post about it. You shoot one and BAM! posting later that day about it..... It is obvious to everyone, you are a Hoyt lover wearing a Mathews hat..... You know you're hooked on Hoyt when your best comeback involves Star Trek terms........you're really reaching at that point.
ruttinbuc
Re: Shot The Trykon I knew it was all in fun coming from you, Chris! I am a little disappointed in your good buddy Ohiobucks for not informing the forum of his recent purchase. However, I can understsnd his reasons for wanting to keep it quiet. Hoyt underground, you know! [/ QUOTE ] Well, a few reasons why I have not come forth with it. One, it is not in my hands yet, it is still on order. Two, I knew Chris would let the cat out of the bag soon enough. Three, I don't want you guys to be even MORE jealous of me....... The Hoyt Underground is a good term though. I picture hunters that are very stealthy, with a quiet death from above type mentality.

The way Chris and that other dude jumped on me made me smile though. Reminds me of a line from Hamlet "Methinks he doth protest too loudly...." It's a nice bow, and I'm being honest, but there's no way on God's green earth it's worth what it would cost me to part with my Legacy. It's just not appreciably better IMHO. ruttinbuc
Re: Shot The Trykon Thanks, OhioBucks! You would not believe how this thing shoots. I took it to a 3D shoot yesterday and had more than a few people wondering what it was. Then they were wondering what made it shoot so fast, Then they couldn't understand the silence as I shot it! They did understand that I smoked their butts on the foam! I really like this bow!
atthewall
Re: Shot The Trykon The Trykon Zephyr CAMS are one step down from the harsher Spiral CAMS and one step up from the CAM 1/2 hence the harsher draw cycle. Just like the Spirals, fixed draw length only. I like the Trykon XL over the shorter Trykon. At short range, they both shoot very close. Stretch out 40 - 70 and things lean toward the XL. Not a big deal for a true hunting bow but double duty as a 3D shooter, I nod toward the XL.

mo_hunter
Re: Shot The Trykon I'll have to say the draw on my LX is much smoother than my trykon. Both are quiet. Same arrow, same draw lenght 26" both 70lbs. LX 245 Trykon 272. Huge difference in speed = TRYKON QUIETFAST. . I sold the LX.
