Swamphunter
I am in the market for an ATV helmet for my soon to be 6 yo son and have a question. Would you guys purchase a full faced helmet with a face shield (like for a motorcycle) or a full faced motocross/atv helmet that he needs goggles with? What do you have for your kids? LETMGROW
Re: ATV Helmet question My advice would be: Figure what your kid's head is worth then start shopping. Cheaper or lighter should not be a factor. Buy an approved DOT Snell rated helmet. Most ATV dealers sell them. Try them on. Don't buy something too large hoping to get extra years use out of it. This advice comes from someone who was in a snowmobile accident a few years back and a quality helmet of proper fit saved me from SERIOUS injury! The helmet is junk now, BUT it did its job. Nosdog2
Re: ATV Helmet question You want both DOT and Snell. You should be able to get one in the $50 dolloar range for a youth helmet.
hutchies
Re: ATV Helmet question Swampy, I gave you some info before just make sure to let him try on the brand and model before you buy it. A full face with goggles will be the best. With goggles you can buy a new lens for cheap(#3-$4). With a full helmet a new shield will run you $
Born2Hunt
Re: ATV Helmet question Look for SNELL and DOT stickers and a proper fit. This comes from experience in dismounts from ATV's and Snowmobiles plus Kart racing. A good helmet saved me from serious injury last year in an atv accident and a couple of years ago my wife hit a power pole head on with my sportsman and hit her head on the pole. She was fine because the helmet did its job and took the impact and exploded inside. Don't cheap out it isn't worth it!

Bow Hunter Derek
Re: ATV Helmet question Last year I bought two full face motocross type helmets for my 4 and 6 year old girls off of Ebay. I got a great deal on them as a pair from a guy. They had hardly ever been worn. I think I paid under half price (including shipping) of new. If you are patient and play the Ebay game, you can get a pretty good deal on a kid size helmet.
