Gator
Went out this morning Crappie fishing, wind picked up QUICK, only out about an hour and a half. Caught 4 crappie, 2 small ones, one about 1.5lbs, the other a touch over 2lbs, and lost another big one. Last year I caught one around 2.75-3lbs, and didn't mount it. That's where my dilemma is, is a 2lb crappie even worth mounting? Length is 14" girth about 12". Pics to follow tomorrow.
Shaun_300
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ Sounds like a nice fish, I'd mount it! That's big for a crappie.

Tominator
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ I'd look into one of those fiberglas mounts, unless it's dead already, then I'd take measurements, fillet it, and give it to someone that liked fish. jcs3344
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ thats up to you man, you caught it..... if i was to mount a crappie it would have to be atleats 3 pounds.... but 2 is a nice fish, either way man good catch
preacherman
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ if you think you won't catch one bigger, then I would mount it. If you know you can catch one bigger, then I wouldn't worry about it. Fillet it and eat it.
Gator
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ For the time being I have wrapped her up in a wet towel, then stuck her in the freezer. At least this way if I do catch a bigger one, I can mount it instead. Thanks for all the suggestions!
Master_Chief
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ I would mount it. You never know when you will catch another as big.
hutchies
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ Wouldn't mount it unless it was close to 3.5 to 4 lbs. We catch alot of big black crappie here and my brother in law has a 4 lber on his wall.
Gator
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ hutch, I have NEVER caught one that big, and probably never will, I don't fish areas that have that big of fish in them. I am fishing a farm pond close to where I live.

unioncountyslayer
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ I'm with most of these guys. If it's a trophy to you and you don't think you have a chance to catch another one like it in the near future I would definately mount it. Put a weight on each species of fish that would be a mountable weight, and if you catch one that big or bigger mount it. I always told myself that if I caught a largemouth 8 lbs or better I was going to mount it, and last year...8 lbs. 7 oz.

Guest PAWhitetailhunter19
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ Cant you get a fish mounted from a few good angled photos.... I would just tke a bunch of pitures for a couple years and than get one mounted.... i don t know what your planning on paying but around here it is about 200 - 250 to mount anything... and thats just a basic mount
unioncountyslayer
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ I had my Bass (above) mounted for $125 bucks. Not bad for a lifetime memory if you ask me.
hutchies
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ Gator if it is a trophy to you mount it. If you can get it done for $125 it would be worth it. State record is only 4lbs 10 ounces for black crappie. The one my Brother in Law caught was just over 4lbs.
hutchies
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ Here is a link to Oklahoma state record white crappie. 4lbs 15 ounces. http://www.wildlifedepartment.com/recordfish/wcrappie.jpg
Gator
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ hutchies, TRUST ME, I know the weight of the state recoed, length, can't remeber the girth. I have ALL of those memorized!!! Fishing there this year has SUCKED!! I ahve caught 3 decent ones, including the one that went 2lbs. I dunno what the deal is. I got on some Sat evening, although they were small, but they just wouldn't bite hardly. I dunno, 'bout to give it up. I gotta catch bait for the end of the month
hutchies
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ I know the feeling. That cold front we had snapped all the fishing at the Dike.............
Gator
Re: To mount, or not to mount........ I wondered what that front did to the fishing. I went out perch jerking this weekend, think them little buggers will eat ANYTIME. Found out to the pond I am fishing appears to be full of SHINERS!!!!!!! Caught about 15 last night in about 10 mins.
